Hoops game thread

Huge win against a team that presents all kinds of matchup problems with size and shooting. Fears redeemed himself tonight and Scott stepped up. Props to Teng for a few nice buckets and the huge 3 down the stretch.

Makes that Minnie loss and the dogshit performance against Uofm that much more frustrating.

Carr tried giving it away(literally), but they held on. Really wish we still had Holloman. Gonna be tough on fears if he has to keep playing so many minutes.

Thankfully I was at the father daughter dance last night. I don’t think I’m gonna bother watching the replay.

Not a fan of these Friday night games - especially since we seem to suck in them.

Nice bounce back win against middling UCLA - and wisco gets manhandled by frickin' OSU. I know over achieving Spartan teams have been prone to let down losses over the years but it sucks to know laying two eggs (minnie & wisco) has taken us out of the race for the B1G title.

Not happy it was still a game with a minute to go but the Buckeyes did whoop Wisco at home - after wisco beat 2 top 3 B1G teams in a weak.

I hope Jordan Love sticks around for at least 2 more years. Early in the season I thought Cam Ward was the better freshman. I still like Ward’s upside potential but Love has really impressed lately.

Just saying that I have more faith in MSU making a FF this season than I do MIchigan. No rationale offered, just a hunch.

Lately I think there is a lot more parity in college basketball than most years but our bigs are going to have to step up and play like they were before this slump that began at Rutgers if they're gonna go far.

We had similar results in our respective games against dook (true, ours was way back in early December) but we've levelled off or even regressed lately.

I still believe guards win championships and Fears is having a great year but he he can't do it on his own.

Nice win against a pretty solid Purdue team on the road - first win in Mackey since 2014.

Got a pretty solid 20 mins from Teng. Cooper was probably MVP for the night. Fears didn’t put up much in terms of numbers but made some key plays. Kohler played solid defense after a rocky start but put in a fairly pedestrian effort on offense.

Fort and McCullough saw no action. With the injury to Divine, depth has gone from a strength to something that could be an issue for a team without any elite players.

This one wasn't a typical MSU win - they got out rebounded (slightly) and fast break points were well below the season average. The game was won on efficiency. Despite soft 3 pt numbers, the team shot 53% from the field scoring 40 points in the paint - if they can shoot better from range and get Kohler going again...

Beating a really good team in their building when they take away some of your strengths - that's a big win and a pretty good sign.

Edit: 4 of Purdue's 6 losses have been at home this season. All were to top 15 teams but still, that has to be unusual.

Pretty solid team effort with Kohler breaking out of his slump with a double-doubel (21 & 12), Teng shooting the lights out on 6-8 shooting (all 3s) and Fears controlling the game - 1 assist away from a double-double. The defense wasn't awesome but wasn't terrible either.

About the worst thing you could say was they should have scored in teh mid to high eighties. They got to 72 with 7:10 left then didn't score (including 2 missed FTs by Cooper) for 5 mins & 45 seconds. Thankfully, the defense stepped up then against a tired hoosier squad and held the to 2pts during that stretch.

Edit: thanks Purdue for making laying an egg against OSU to make our win look less impressive.

Up 15 w/ 1:55 left, score 10 points and win by just 4. The all senior lineup almost cooked it away.

Izzo prob subbed Fears and co out a little early but still kind of a dick move by Rutgers to f up senior night.

Oh well, locked up the triple bye for BTT. Go Green!
