Jesus Christ, Sparty

Don't forget the guy who chose to walk on at Northwestern rather than have a scholarship at MSU...

He's a NW fan from Chicago and money isn't an issue for him. Why not go to your dream school?

You guys just had maybe your best class ever(still gotta suck to finish behind your rival though) and you're concerned with MSU?????

Not concerned, actually feel bad.

As far as finishing behind OSU, not worried. Our offensive talent outweighs theirs(especially with this years receivers) and our defense just got some parts that are going to plug in perfectly in Brown's defense. Lots of speed in this class added to last years.

Sparty, that stuff can only carry you so far. The consistent top programs are finishing with top 5-10 classes. You'll rarely, if ever see an elite team at the top with average recruiting classes.

What State did was a massive anomaly in the grand scheme of college football. Maintaining this "diamond in the rough strategy" is not feasible. There was a crazy combination of finding guys that panned out and winning these crazy ass games with wacky finishes seemingly every season.

After awhile, if you cannot maintain top recruiting, the program is going to fall back. That's just basic logic.

On the other hand you have teams that constantly have top recruiting classes and have nothing to show for it. How bout you guys win something and then talk.

Uh oh, someone's a bit cantankerous.

(insert pride comes before quote here).

No need to. I know that you're fully aware of how both teams have been since coach D has been there. Congrats on being the 3rd or 4th best team in the Big Ten this year though!!

He had a good run, no doubt. He's just not going to maintain any level of future success with the way things are going. Keeping the coaches, landing a class that's outside of the top 30. Don't need to stick your head in the sand, your program had a fantastic run but it's going to be winding down.

Yeah those class rankings sure were a burden on the way to 3 Big Ten titles in a 6 year span. Not that I expect these current classes to pan out with these dipshit coordinators and assistants at the helm.

Not to take anything away from what Dantonio and those teams accomplished - some of them were legit good teams - but you guys are willfully ignorning the effect that the Rodriguez-Hoke years had on MSU's standings and recruiting.

Basically MSU had a "gimme" in the win column almost every year, as well as one less competitor at the top of the standings. And that doesn't even include the bump to morale from the fact that "gimme" was from a hated in-state rival. that bumb maybe difficult to quantify but definitely exists.

Did it play a role in head-to-head matchups, and in turn the standings? Yeah, probably I'll admit it. But you can say that for a lot of programs I think. I'm not going to discredit Washington making the playoff because of Chip Kelly leaving or TCU becoming a pretty good program while Texas has floundered. Hell Michigan may not have won 6 in a row against MSU if we didn't have 2 of the worst coaches since Muddy Waters during that time span.

I think it played little if any role in recruiting. We never had amazing classes even when U-M was a dumpster fire on the field, I believe our alleged "best class in years" just put forth a 3-9 record as juniors.

Who cares about the national rankings ...Alabama, USC, LSU, etc.?

MICHIGAN just took every single one of the top recruits from the state of MICHIGAN and will continue to do so going forward. East Lansing is an absolute dumpster fire of a program now but keep doing what you bitter cranks always complain UM fans do and ....keep living in the past (few years)

Wait, you come to a Michigan board, but think nobody should talk. That's really weird. And yes, I know you meant 'talk smack'. I still think that's really weird.

Yeah, I guess if you can't talk on your own forum, there's nowhere else to go.

Ha, ha...I didn't even know yesterday was national signing day!

The various "experts..." - Rivals, CBS Sports, Sporting News, ESPN and so forth...are all over the board on their rankings of the teams' recruiting classes...except they all have Alabama #1, I guess...after that, all over the place...

Why do MSU fans always brag about OSU's accomplishments?!?!?!?

I'm still pissed how poor we have been verses O$U and Msu the last 10 seasons. Until we beat both consistently were not back yet totally.. I find it funny that MSU fans always complained about Michigan fans when talking about past seasons but it it ok for them to do it. Its weird .
That being said Mark Dantonio has owned our asses with 2 and 3 star classes. What really helps is having starting QB's who are 27-12 as a starter in Cousins, and Connor Cook who was 34-5. Hopefully Jim can turn these good recruits in great players. I did not think MSU would fall this fast but it does feel like Mark did not take advantage of his great run into top recruiting classes. Sort of reminds me of Beilein whiffing after our 2,3 years around our final four appearance. Can't whiff at getting top guys..
