68 games to go time to start this bad boy up. I think it will be really hard for him to catch Davis in HR unless an injury occurs. Stranger things have happened, though.

AVG
-----
1. Cabrera DET .358
2. Mauer MIN .324
3. Ortiz BOS .323
4. Trout LAA .321
5. Loney TB .316

HR
---
1. Davis BAL 37
2. Cabrera DET 31
3. Encarnacion TOR 26
T4. Dunn CWS 24
T4. Ibanez SEA 24

RBI
----
1. Davis BAL 97
2. Cabrera DET 96
3. Encarnacion TOR 74
4. Fielder DET 74
5. Jones BAL 71

I was surprised to see that Davis closed the gap in RBI too. My guess is Davis falls off his pace quite a bit. I was listening to MLB radio and one of the announcers said he thinks that pitchers will start pitching around Davis more in the second 1/2 and Miggy will win the TC again.

I was surprised to see Ibanez in the top five in homers, considering he plays half his games in that canyon...

I said in another thread that he would be a good guy to target in a trade. Him and one of their relief pitchers. He could play a little LF and get some ABs at DH. Having a guy like him in the playoffs can be huge.

I didn't think it was possible for Miggy to lead in HR last year. He wasn't that close and points of the season. Next thing you know he's tops.

I'm actually more excited about him winning his 3rd BA crown in a row. Not many players have done that, would be the first RHB since Hornsby. Only 2 RHB ever won it 3 times, the late great Roberto Clemente and the always under-appreciated Bill Madlock. That would be awesome.

Miggy may be a lock for BA. Hopefully this hip felxor thing doesnt let Davis pull away in HR and RBI!

I need to update this hey? :p Sorry...dropping the ball (not unlike our South Side buddies lol)... Been a busy week.

Not much change in the HR department. Miggy is the only one to homer over the last few days. Lost the RBI lead to Davis for the time being. Miggy shouldn't be out long so he should get back on top of that fairly soon.

Mauer and Ortiz knock Trout out of 2nd in BA. Loney new to the list. Pedroia drops out of top 5.

No movement in the home run race.

No RBIs for Davis tonight. Prince's 3-run homer gives puts him into a tie for 3rd in ribbies. Adam Jones takes 5th by himself.

Mauer is making a trip to the DL so he should stay in the top 5 by default for a while. Everyone pretty much stays where they were in the category.

I hope he's back soon because I hate looking at his .666 slugging %. Like a bad omen.

If Miggy was in the NL he would be have the triple crown all but wrapped. (Of course he would have fewer RBIs due the pitcher batting 9th)

Does anyone know how many players there have been that would have gotten a triple crown had they been in the other league? AL players have certain advantages, such as RBI totals, but they also have to compete against designated hitters, which NL players do not.

Near as I can tell, two players might have been able to win a TC, had they been in the junior or senior circuit instead, post turn of the century. Both are not as popular as they once were: ARoid and Pooholes. Barroid Bonds and maybe Guerrero might have had a good chance as well.

Keith Law is such a ****ing troll, he still thinks Trout was MVP last year and thinks he should win again THIS year.

I think that he had a valid argument for Trout last year (although I would have voted for Miggy). This year Miggy's offensive numbers are so outstanding I don't think it will be close (and it shouldn't be)

Depends on the definition of MVP I guess.

Using Linear Weights, it could be debated that Trout had a better year last year on offense and defense. This year is a different story.

2012
Trout 140.05 RC/650 (.409 wOBA)
Cabrera 129.72 RC/650 (.417 wOBA)

P.Fielder was 3rd in AL wOBA in 2012, with .398, 120.48 RC/650 (.343 wOBA and 85.13 RC/650 in 2013). He was 2nd on the team, followed by Jackson at .371 wOBA.

After Trout's .409 wOBA, there is a drop to Pujols at .360, followed by Hunter .356.

2013
Cabrera 168.76 RC/650 (.475 wOBA)
C. Davis 151.82 RC/650 (.440 wOBA)
Trout 145.73 RC/650 (.427 wOBA)

**Bonds .537 wOBA in 2001 and .540 wOBA in 2002.

After Cabrera, the drop goes to Peralta at .358 wOBA, followed by Hunter at .349 wOBA.

After Davis, the drop goes to Adam Jones at .358 wOBA, followed by Machado at .334 wOBA.

After Trout, the drop goes to Kendrick at .336 wOBA, followed by Pujols at .329 wOBA.

BLUF. 2012 can be debated all day long. It depends what you want to focus on. However, 2013 right now is only a contest between Cabrera and Davis. And it really isn't close. And certainly will be even wider if the Orioles don't make the playoffs and the Tigers do.

As nice the fact Cabrera won the Triple Crown last year, this year far exceeds that even if he doesn't win it again this year.

Its true that last year was debatable, its just annoying that hes still whining about it.

That hes saying that Trout is the MVP this year though is ****ing ludicrous. Law is nothing but a paid troll.
