....at least preliminary and ahead of the notion that it's BYE BYE to BKelly

Some Detroit area media on Twitter saying that Miles would take the job if offered and Herman is not that dumb, old or desperate.

Read an article earlier about Purdue firing their coach in hopes of miles coming there. ND would be much better than that other mess in Indiana.

I think the Purdue deal would be pretty neat. Miles is an unbelievable recruiter. Could you imagine a competitive Purdue, again? They used to have some pretty good defenses(and teams) in the early 2000's. Ohio State did not like playing them at all. From '99-'04 OSU lost twice to them and the other games, except for '01, were decided on the last drives of the game. Purdue made a bowl game everyone of those years. I welcome a good coach to Purdue and a good Purdue. This would strengthen the Big10 immensely and Purdue would not be a gimme game, anymore.

Purdue and Illinois both used to field decent teams. Now they are utter trash.

Some of those Miles-to-Purdont rumors are being dismissed now ...I don't see him taking ND because it's a thankless job for every coach since Holtz, it's a 3-5yr gig of overhyped expectations, mediocre results and termination. Miles is relatively older for a HC and does he really want to go to south bend and compete with Harbaugh and Meyer for the midwest kids?? And that SEC over-sign/cut by Memo thing won't fly at nd at all.

I heard the Jesuit Priests who run Notre Dame football are telling Les Miles that he has to **** Gary Moeller's wife one more time to prove he is worthy to take on the awesome duty of being the Notre Dame Head Football Coach.

The theory is that, if he's willing to lower himself to that, there is no depth he won't lower himself to to win at Notre Dame.

For the record, Notre Dame is not a Jesuit university. There is debate of it being a Catholic university.

you forgot the part about all the ND priests and administration demanding they get to watch... but only because they want to make sure he actually goes through with it. or so they said.

Yeah, I agree that I don't see Miles taking the ND job. I don't know if he'd take Purdue, but something tells me he'd be more likely to go there & come back to the Big Ten for the sunset of his career. It can't be THAT tough of a job... Joe Tiller was reasonably successful there.

Like you said, it's an awful position for many reasons. I get the sense Swarbrick is a sketchy guy to deal with, and I'd imagine the university administration is even worse.

It seems Miles is financially secure, and on top of that LSU owes him buyout money. He therefore doesn't need to rush into anything, and given how he left LSU, probably would strongly consider the work environment and enjoyment factors over more money. if he just wants to coach, there are a lot of places he could go where he could do that without a lot of pressure and just enjoy it... like a lower tier PAC-12 or ACC squad. or maybe Big XII.

though I'd imagine ND offering millions and literally begging him to come in might be hard for anyone to resist.

on a related note... It's hilarious ND just gave Kelly a 6 year extension on his contract at the start of this year. Not quite as bad as the deal they made with Kelly's Fat Bitch predecessor, but pretty awful regardless. They should never offer a coach a contract again because they're just not very good at it.

I'll offer that these are two of the more uncharitable posts I've read on these boards.

UM, I think that's sort of a misleading thought about Purdue. Other than several 9 win seasons under Tiller (3 to be exact), they've been historically below average, average at best.

They are like Indiana. They'll be forever mediocre IMO. They haven't won 10 games since 1979. Think about that!

Well that was the era I was referring to when I said "used to be good". I didn't mean they are any sort of historically strong program. Purdue used to be a pretty big game, and now it's an afterthought.

I guess maybe.

For my part, I did a significant amount of business followed by a substantial amount of drinking, and I think I made my post when I was drunk and feeling giddy.

On the other hand, MichChamp-we all know he's just an asshole.

It was such a short blip and it wasn't even that great. Some people remember Purdue under Tiller incorrectly, he was a good coach. But the program was never really that good, and won't.

And bringing it all home, that's why Miles or Fleck won't go there lol.

If I was in Miles position, and money wasn't the biggest issue, and I wanted to coach roughly 10 years. Purdue would be my choice. At least at Purdue you won't have the pressure to compete for a NC every year and you would have more freedom.

ND is a 5 year job max. I don't see any coach going in there and having 10+ win seasons year in and year out. ND is IMO a dying program. The more there is a push for big conferences, the more ND stands out as falling behind. I hope the Big Ten never takes them in as a program. The SEC will not take them in. They are going to have to step into the ACC to Big 12, or risk falling off the map.

Purdue would be a better fit for a coach with plenty of money and in the final stages of his career, and if he can get Purdue to Tiller style of success, he would be considered a hero to the Purdue fan base.

Miles could also get a lending hand from boosters without worrying about repercussions. In this day and age anything goes and most schools dont care(or get penalized anyway). I'm not condoning this, but this is the lay of the land in SEC territory. Purdue fan certainly wont care. This would be welcome. And.........he has nothing to lose.
