I just want some talent and a darn goal scorer . Wish Steve Yzerman Was doing our draft.

Guaranteed nothing with the lottery.. I have no idea who will be in the draft but I suspect there won't be an Yzerman.

Dahlin is the big name, and he's getting Lidstrom/Karlsson comparisons. I'd love a true successor to Yzerman/Datsyuk/Zetterberg, but I think the Lidstrom hole has been the harder one for us to fill anyway. Not that I expect to win the lottery, but this team needs help everywhere, and we don't just need an Yzerman to get better.

Imo, Yzerman is a top 5 player in the NHL. All-time. We ain't getting that.. And no disrespect to Karlsson but he ain't no Lidstrom. And I agree we need much.

I agree with needing a defensive presence but it's not like Edmonton is top goal scoring team. Middle of the pack. And Detroit offense is not good. I like some of younger offensive forwards but do you see any of those particular players scoring 80-100 points in a season?

Worst 6 teams in the NHL are the worst 6 offensives in the NHL. Granted they all give up a lot of goals as well. So do want to lose 3-2 or 6-4. It doesn't really matter. Maybe a good offensive defensemen. Paul Coffey type. Lindstrom, Bourque. I'll take a Reed Larson - underrated on some awful teams.

There is a reason the seasons Wings won the cup were their best defensive seasons.

Not their best offensive seasons, think I had a post somewhere on here with the breakdowns.

But something like 4 out of 6 best defensive seasons during the playoff streak is when the Wings won the cup.

The past few years there have been very few players who get in the 80-100 point range.

20-30 years ago it was common for every team to have a couple. That is not a part of today's NHL.

Players with 80+ points

2016-17: 7
2015-16: 4
2014-15: 5
2013-14: 7
2012-13: 17 (47+ points due to short season)
2011-12: 9
2010-11: 9 **Last time Red Wing made it
2009-10: 17
2008-9: 17
2007-8: 19
2006-7: 28
2005-6: 26

This season there will be many. Probably the most since the initial surge following the 04-5 lockout. Already at 15 with handful of games left.

BTW, Detroit is currently the oldest team in the NHL weighted by ice-time.

Detroit Average Age: 29 years 3 months.

League average is 27 years and just under 3 months.

Oldest Red Wings squad since 2011-12 which was at 30.

Dylan Larkin (53 points), most points by a US born player on Detroit since Rafalski in 08-9 with 59.

That is 8th most points by US player on Detroit since 1990.

Among Canadians he would be 32nd best season in same timeframe. Mostly Steve Y and Shanny.

From 08-9 his numbers are currently 22nd most, tied with Nyquist from 14-15. I hope he gets hot at end and cracks 60 mark.

Top 3 pick, the magic bullet to turning your franchise around.

Colorado: About to make 1st playoff appearance since Roy's departure
Edmonton: Going to miss playoffs for 11th of 12 seasons
Florida: In hunt for playoffs. They had something good going before team owners thought they could do better job than Tallon who built the Chicago cup winning teams before Bowman took over. Tallon back in power after 1 season. Dropped 3 top 6 forwards in summer [Jagr (7pts/22gp), Marchesault (73pts/74gp), Smith (60pts/66gp)]

Only teams to make it to Cup finals with top 3 picks from the past few years are Boston (Seguin played limited role, Toronto's pick) and Tampa Bay (Drouin played 6 games during cup final run).

SC: Stanley Cup
SCF: Stanley Cup Finals
CF: Conference Finals
PF: Playoffs

Just saying, getting the top picks isn't enough.

Correction, think that Drouin should have 2 for CF column.

Don't get me wrong I like Larkin very much. Just wish we had a true star potential 90-100 point guy. Maybe when the team improves he can be that guy.

They need drafts like when they grabbed Datsyuk in the 6th and Zetterman the following year in the 7th.
