OT: Active Shooter on osu campus

Friend from Ohio says the media jumped the gun. Apparently a car ran down some students and the gun fire was from a nearby police officer. There isn't/never was an active shooter.

Really? The update now says "several people taken to the hospital" after shooting reported ...

So were these people run over by a car and injured or shot?

UPDATE: Law enforcement tell @Maureen10TV police pursuing second suspect in OSU shooting; CFD reports nine injuries bit.ly/aWHrlM

TV on in my home office just updated the shooter has been killed and one person critical, others 'stable'

Wouldn't surprise me to find media was off but the reports of active shooter came from OSU safety department not a reporter - they just picked it up.

Friends from Ohio?

Nothing like this is being reported on national/international media at all.

I just heard that the shooter is dead and the shelter in place has been called off.

Now CNN is updating and story more like sgg said ....large knife and car and it was cops who shot their guns.

I had walked away from the television and didn't hear that. So is it true that 18 people were taken to the hospital?

I bet they got far more clicks and views with the whole 'active shooter, several shots fired' headlines though. Good for them.

I came across the 'breaking news' on twitter and within minutes, tons of folks were tweeting about staying safe and how horrific the news is, etc..

But all were re-tweeting the OSU message about 'active shooter' and lockdown ...I suppose its better safe than sorry and the term 'active stabber' doesn't carry the same weight.

I can tell you that they shelter in place, active shooter call can be used to cover several situations. Not saying this wasn't a shooter, but the alert that was sent out was designed people to shelter and I'm sure that is the easiest way to get your Point across.

We have a program with a standard form that is sent out in certain situations, and I know OSU and most if not all big ten schools have it. Just push the button and it goes out.

I have 2 friends that work for Franklin C.O. but I doubt me asking questions at this moment is what they need. Also for those that know, the OSP academy grounds are next to the campus. Anyway thats my useless info.

Ha you guys are going faster than me. Vic this s what I was trying to say, active shooter is a cover all for situations like this, "active stabber" is not a coined term and does not carry the same weight.

OK. So I guess it's safe to say that the term "active shooter" came from the University itself.

Anyway it seems we managed to get rid of another useless nut job with nobody else is dying.

Good work.

I'm all for the initial report, better safe than sorry for those on the ground. But they ran with it longer than they should have. I'm a 32 year old on my day off playing with my two sons and had better intel than CNN, Fox, etc? I might have my tinfoil hat on but it seems hard to believe.

I'm also biased in my disgust for the 'news'. Blah.

That's nothing new - in the age of camera videos and twitter this type of thing is happening all the time.

Also you didn't necessarily have better intel - you had the correct intel a little bit sooner.
