NEW YORK -- Detroit Red Wings goaltender Ty Conklin has cleared re-entry waivers, general manager Ken Holland said.
Conklin is on his way to New York and will start tonight's game against the Rangers at Madison Square Garden (7:30 p.m., NBC Sports Network).
Conklin, 35, is 8-4-0, with a 2.40 goals-against average and .915 save percentage with the Grand Rapids Griffins. He is 3-5-0, with a 3.40 GAA and .878 save percentage with the Red Wings.
In his most recent start with Detroit on Feb. 2, he was pulled after the first period, after allowing three goals, in a 5-4 shootout loss at Edmonton.
Jordan Pearce will serve as Conklin's back-up. Jimmy Howard traveled with the team to New York to receive treatment on his sore groin. He said an MRI on Tuesday revealed no damage. He is hoping to be ready for Saturday's game against Carolina at Joe Louis Arena.
