Still angry

Just now posting for the first time since the game. Still angry. Not about any one thing more than another, mostly just angry that we lost with lots of individual reasons to be angry. Spartans and Buckeyes still looking for salt can get it here. This one hurt. Last year's MSU game hurt but wore off quickly. This burn has staying power.

My cousin asked me if I broke something.

I answered "no...but I was pretty excited when I watched them win the game...and pretty upset when they gave Barrett that first down..."

I had a nice talk with some other people about this. It's just not worth getting angry over things you can't control anymore. I used to let sports ruin my day, and sometimes week.

Then I think about s*** that actually matters, and this is so far down the list.

Life goes on, the sun always rises. Think about Cubs fans man. There are people that rooted for that team their entire life and never saw a championship.

I agree with not letting sports ruin your day, and generally follow that line of thinking, (I was able to overcome disappointment in all three losses last season, and Iowa this year) but found myself unable to do so on Saturday.

I agree Gulo... this one was bad. Maybe the worst sports loss I've ever endured.

I spent most of the 2nd half pacing in circles while watching and found myself doing ridiculously superstitious things (e.g. switching coasters, switching beers, watching from a different part of the room, etc etc) as the game came down to the wire. at first the bad calls ( or No calls) during the game didn't bother me as much as the blown opportunities did. Could you imagine how ****ing sweet it wouldve been if Jordan Lewis took that last kick return all the way??? then, as it sunk in we wouldn't be playing for shit the rest of this season, for the rest of the afternoon, I was pretty much out of my mind with loathing. the thought occurred to me to look up who the refs were, but I never did.

it wasn't until I agreed to go do yoga with my wife on Sunday morning that I finally got it out of my head.

then Sunday night I started getting texts from people that two of the refs were Ohio State fans, the head ref had been fired for incompetence in '02... AAAAH!!!

My wife was shocked at how well I handled this loss. Was I upset? **** yes. I am still mad we had this one stolen from us.

The amount of pass interference that OSU was allowed to get away with was sickening. They were allowed to mug our WRs all day long and there were no flags.

We made our mistakes, but we battled through them enough to win this game. The defense did an amazing job and the refs stole the game from them. If you talk to anyone who thinks the officiating was not a major factor in this game, they are either an idiot or blind. When one team is allowed to play outside of the rules with no repercussions, it is a gigantic advantage.

I know it's not the same, but I had this happen against a rival team in basketball my senior year of high school. We were way better than them our senior year and beat them at home 84-42. When we played at their place, they hired refs that lived in town. They allowed them to beat us to death and we barely escaped with a 34-33 win. I was full on Goldberg speared on a three-point shot at one point and that wasn't enough for a whistle. I got punched in the nuts on another one later. No whistle. That was the tip of the iceberg. It was a sham and that's why I bring this example up. This game was a ****ing sham because of the officiating.

It really bothers me that this Senior class has to go out like this in their last game against OSU.

Little Vic was crying his heart out and seeing that sort of pain in your son's eyes because of something I did - because I made him a MICHIGAN FAN - grounded me pretty well in the time following the game. Reminding him of the big picture and how it's still only sports, no matter how much it hurts.

That perspective and a lot of vodka later at Folsom Field.

drinking did not help me with this one... made it worse.

I disagree and I will tell you why.

I don't think anyone is unfamiliar with the idea that life is full of highs and lows and they make life worth living and sometimes we assign value to things that are trivial because adding more highs and lows enrich life. The lows are what makes the highs feel high.

That's all well and good, but sometimes people bail on the lows and put them in perspective relative to actual problems in the world or in their lives. That's fine for them, but I see value in going through this period of anger and disappointment.

I think this salt is a little bit analogous to actual salt. If you change the amount of salt in your diet, over the course of about two weeks, your sensitivity to salt changes. I think you can saturate with respect to anger and misery in a similar way if you just get so angry and then gain perspective whenever it gets to be too much.

You shouldn't live this way all the time. But once in a while, I think it's a good exercise to stretch the boundary, out of your comfort zone. Just be irrationally angry for a while. As long as I can be civil with people, I think it will help me to deal with the next real world problem to go through this period of manufactured loss. It's a reminder of what it feels like to be operating in this state.

Blown opportunities was the #1 thing I was upset about.

Random chance was thing #2. The way I saw it, "the spot" was too close for anyone just watching on TV to call. But it still pissed me off to be so close and have things not go our way. It feels like that's happened to us way too much. Too many just barely events that could have gone the other way.

Thing 3 was chaos. 2 of our 3 turnovers weren't just turnovers. They were the worst possible turnovers. And our penalties that weren't just penalties, but gave OSU another set of downs when we would have gotten the ball back. Maddening!

Thing 4 was the non-calls. I was pissed, but not remotely as pissed as I was over the feeling that we are just snake bit. That is until I went online and saw all the fans of other teams talking about how we got screwed; even a few Buckeyes. And that stat about OSU only getting 6 yards of penalties to our 59.

I'm still so angry. I really do want to talk to anyone in person but my wife. I didn't even want to talk to any of you until today and you all are only tolerable because I know I could close the window if I just want to walk away from the conversation.

I told my wife to pick up tonic water so I could start drinking again. She asked why and I told her just to get it. Then after 2 it didn't taste that good and I started watching high school games from California, and indiana..
Two amazing games Carmel (Indiana )verses defending champion Center Grove was a fantastic game. With controversy. One thing that shocked me is Carmel Indiana is biggest high school in that state with a enrollment of 5010 according to the broadcast and Grove was over 2700 or 2800 and in top 15. WTF. . Do we have any school over 3000 in Michigan? Maybe 1 to 5 but I think zero.

Center Grove forced 6 turnovers and had 2 or 3 themselves but only got 10 points off them and when Carmel took a three point lead with 48 seconds left I thought it was over. But they got it in fg range and this sophomore hit bar on 50 yarder and it went over. Wait other coach called time out.. kid steps up and drills second kick by 53+ .
In ot Grove has 2nd and 1 and thier power back just got hurt. Scat back looks in as he jumped over but refs say fumble. . Carmel drills fg 16-13.. Classic.. other game from california was a shootout but fun to watch. Won by st. Bosco. Just had to get bad taste out of my mouth from the michigan game. It was football.
But it didn't work sadly.

Here is highlights of thst kick and fumble.

And you know what!?! I'm pissed at MSU too.

For sucking all year until it came to our game and dragging themselves to the game with their heads down, predicting a 3 touchdown loss. Took half the fun out of it.

Assholes.

tough weekend...all of that, then you had to go to the Denver game and watch that ending.

You mean the back-to-back (30-27) OT losses within 36 hours??

Well, at least there's that whole SuperBowl in Santa Clara I went to....

Wow Bob, Im about 40 Minutes from Carmel and had no idea the high school was that big. I guess maybe their city limits actually extend into Indy or its because of open enrollment.

Regardless Carmel is a extremely nice area and the wife likes to go shopping in the area, and I enjoy several of the eateries over that way. I guess the area of Carmel that we visit doesn't appear to be that big, so Im gonna say the enrollment is high because of Indiana's open enrollment. Also I believe Jim Irsay lives in Carmel, FWIW.

Did you see all those Cubs fans decorating the graves of their ancestors?

I'm much happier when Michigan wins than I'm sad when they lose.

If it was different I'd give it up.

I'm about 40 mins from Carmel as well. Their city limits don't extend into Indy, but they hit the north border of Indy and the east border of Zionsville. It's a fairly large area.
