Ticking Clock

I do feel for the guy. He got his dream job, but things have not worked out well at all.

It would be awesome if he could stay on as a recruiter, but no chance he takes the pay cut such a demotion would entail.

I'm having a hard time feeling bad for Hoke. He hasn't produced shit as a head coach and he's not worthy of being in charge of this team. The players are too good and their talents are wasted on a coach who doesn't light a fire under their asses from the get-go. I'm tired of watching this team struggle every.****ing.Saturday. This is Michigan and it's time to say goodbye to Ra Ra Hoke.

Hoke gave michigan fans what they wanted when they needed it; a 'Michigan Man' who would 'walk to Ann Arbor' and there's nothing wrong with admitting that.

Exactly. He did the primary job he was hired to do.

The job that needs to be done now is one for which he seems to be underqualified.

Did he have a headset on in those pictures? No wonder we lost.

Nope, his primary job was and is to win football games. "Healing a fractured fan base" can be accomplished with winning football games. Hoke isn't winning football games. The fan base wouldn't have been as fractured as it was if the guy before him could've done his primary job...win football games.

I believe there is a cliche you are looking for that summarizes your post and is used often across all sports at all levels.

yeah, pretty much. he really only healed the fanbase by winning 11 games in year 1. it's not like the entire fanbase was enthusiastic about the hire in January.

In hindsight... look at all the crazy breaks he got in year one... "Honeymoon" period with the players after acrimonious RichRod left, two key veterans Carr recruited on the lines (Martin and Molk), and the breaks to win the ND, Ohio, and Sugar Bowl games. Could've easily been 8-5 that year. Or worse if you take two of those things away.

You'd swear our Program is cursed. Even when things go right, they turn out so wrong.

And even in that magical season, the team still didn't win the Big Ten title.

For me, I didn't like hearing him say after that year, "We failed. We didn't win the Big Ten." After that, I think the fan base expected too much. I would have much rather have heard him say something along the lines of "even though we didn't win the B10, we had a great season." Nope. It was, we failed, we failed.

How many majors has he won since that add came campaign out? It's a true statement but you still have to win

Right.

As in, Winning Cures Everything ....so that when you're not winning, other issues become a problem.

I believe there's ample evidence to the opposite. Winning doesn't cure everything. Or maybe, it's not possible to win if you haven't already taken care of your "issues."

"They're winners. And winners get to do whatever they want!"

and remember when this Winner was seemingly on every form of media 24/7?

Where is he now?

point being... what are we talking about again?

I guess maybe winning won't cure all our problems. Or maybe... it will, but it's going to take a heckuva lot of winning. Not just some winning, but A LOT OF WINNING. And it's unlikely we're going to see a lot of winning, so... we probably have to deal with everything. Just like Tiger Woods and Charlie Sheen did.

time to call our team therapist.

My point was that folks are pretty quick to turn on Hoke after he did what was asked ....aside from "win" which is why we're in the situation. Winning is an expectation that goes without saying ....

But fans with Rich Rod went so far as to say, "I'd rather win but not this way."

Now we're frustrated again. And some are saying things like, " I never liked the Hoke hire!" and "Dave Brandon screwed up" or "Michigan needs to go get a top coach - open up the checkbook"

And it's all so disingenuous.

Win and there are no criticisms of Hoke's short sleeves, likeness to Fred Flintstone or XXL waist size. Nobody rewriting the Rich Rod days with sentimentality and fondness.

You have to laugh a bit at all these fans

Why? There is an expectation that a coach will put a competitive team on the field. If he was doing that, there wouldn't be any problems. Because he can't, because he insulted the fans, embarrasses himself every time he talks to the media, and is responsible for helping this program get to the lowest point, fans have every right to be upset.

And I don't buy that short sleeve, fat guy stuff. Every coach, win or lose, is made fun of for some of their quirks. People make still talk about Bill Belicheck and how he dresses like a hobo. That's a non-issue for me. When he was 11-2, people still brought up his weight and his mannerisms.

I didn't say there isn't reason to be upset - everyone is.

I think it's childish and bullshit to PRETEND to be so offended at Hoke and to act like it was known he wouldn't work out by the truly insightful and smart M fans and only idiots thought he was the right guy.

We're all ****ing pissed. And I'm spending more in airfare and game tickets at face value to bring the family back for MIN and PSU so spare me the crap about the poor season ticket holders.

We're all pissed off and shocked and again, an expectation to win is a given. It doesn't need to be said.
