Baseball America lays out clear case for Kevin McGonigle skipping Tigers’ Triple-A.
Detroit doesn’t need Toledo to tell it what it’s already seeing.

DEEPER DISCUSSIONS.
Totally Tigers

The most recent list of MLB’s top 100 players just came out. Three Detroit Tigers made the list:
#4 – Tarik Skubal
#49 – Riley Greene
#65 – Framber Valdez
Two pitchers, 1 positional player.

In contrast, here’s how many the other teams collected:
8 – Dodgers
6 – Yankees
5 – Mariners, Phillies, Red Sox
4 – Astros, Athletics, Blue Jays, Braves, Brewers, Cubs, Giants, Mets, Padres, Rangers, Royals
3 – Diamondbacks, Reds, Tigers
2 – Angels, Guardians, Orioles, Rays, Twins
1 – Cardinals, Marlins, Nationals, Pirates, Rockies, White Sox

More than half of all MLB teams have 4 or more players in the top 100.
In order for the Tigers to get deeper into the playoffs, do they need to have more players in the top 100?
Or could other factors be as or even more important for them to have greater success in October?
Today’s blog addresses this question and allows readers to share their thoughts in more detail. And hopefully, to actively engage with others by responding to their posts and creating back-and-forth discussion threads. The more the merrier!
For this one blog only, you’ve got 6 sentences max to share your thoughts. Of course, you can also respond to other readers.
TT will supply the ammunition. One thought-provoking question. Several options provided. One hard choice to be selected. One vote.
Ready?

Do the Tigers need more than 3 players in top 100 in order to go deeper into the playoffs?

1. Yes.

2. Not necessarily.

3. No.

Parker Meadows 1-24 he probably plays a ton this week, and the pressure is going to start to mount. See how he handles it. It's these kind of situations that Hinch loves, prove why you belong.

How unique is Kevin McGonigle? Fangraphs allows you to go back to 2006 on their Minor League leaderboards.
He is the only player since 2006 (furthest back Fangraphs goes) to have these stats in the minors:•
800+ PA (818)
BB% ≥ 10% (15%)
K% ≤ 15% (10.3%)
ISO ≥ .200 (.204)
SB ≥ 30 (40)

Sometimes it’s the smaller stories that slip under the radar that have the biggest and most long-lasting impact. Let’s cover some of those from the past week as they relate to the Detroit Tigers.
Today’s blog just happens to have a common theme: Men who some fans love to hate. Maybe these reports will change some minds…….. Then again, maybe not.

Tigers roster moves:
Max Clark reassigned to minor-league camp;
Hao-Yu Lee, Eduardo Valencia optioned to Triple-A Toledo,
Thayron Liranzo optioned to Double-A Erie.
Detroit’s major league camp roster now stands at 51 players.

Top prospect Kevin McGonigle is still in MLB spring training with 17 days until Opening Day.

He’s working his way back from his shoulder injury, so he is only DH'ing on the back fields today, but sure is good to see Tigers prospect Bryce Rainer back in the box.

When do spring training stats actually matter? Parker Meadows is hitting .094, but his Statcast defensive numbers are elite. The Tigers face a tough call before Opening Day.

Dillon Dingler, starting at catcher for the first time this spring following offseason elbow surgery, gets immediately tested and makes a nice throw to retire Will Simpson and end the first inning for Framber Valdez.
