Tigers 2025-2026 Offseason: Trades, Free Agents, Call ups, Rule 5, tender, non-tender, Skubal Cy Young Award

SATURDAY SURVEY.
Totally Tigers

Several days ago, Manager A. J. Hinch submitted his list of minor leaguers for the annual Prospects Game this weekend. Missing from the list were Max Anderson, Trei Cruz, Kevin McGonigle and John Peck. Hinch hinted that he wanted them to remain in Lakeland playing against MLB level talent because they were still in the mix for making the Opening Day roster.
If any of these 4 make the roster, it is almost a given that it will be McGonigle who plays SS primarily but with some 3B thrown in.
Anderson plays 3B as does John Peck who also divides his time between 2B and SS. Trei Cruz is the lone outfielder.
Meanwhile, Jahmai Jones, Parker Meadows and Wenceel Perez (all outfielders) have been struggling at the plate and in the field. Colt Keith, an infielder, is having offensive issues.
Meadows and Perez still have options left and Keith was extended by the Tigers to cover his team control years. He will be making $4 mill in 2026.

Which position(s) do you believe the Tigers will change?

1. Send down an outfielder(s). Bring up Cruz.

2. Send down one infielder. Bring up McGonigle.

3. Send down 2 infielders. Add Anderson or Cruz to McGonigle.

4. Add an infielder and outfielder (Cruz).

A year after making his pro debut with a big performance in Spring Breakout, Bryce Rainer is back, healthy shoulder and all.

DEEPER DISCUSSIONS.
Totally Tigers

We know that the Detroit Tigers plan on promoting at least 1 prospect this season.
But when is the best time to do it?
Should it be at the beginning of the year? Or could a rookie’s adjustment to the MLB level get the team off to a slow start? And what would it do to their service time?
Should it be mid-season (May-June)? It would give them some experience in AAA and would clear up some service time issues but give them less time to (hopefully) prepare for the post-season.
Or should it be towards the end of the year? The extra time would help further polish and refine their skills in AAA. If the Tigers aren’t in contention, a late call up would help ease them into the MLB level. But if the team expects to see October, would it give them enough experience to handle the added pressure?
Today’s blog addresses this question and allows readers to share their thoughts in more detail. And hopefully, to actively engage with others by responding to their posts and creating back-and-forth discussion threads. The more the merrier!
For this one blog only, you’ve got 6 sentences max to share your thoughts. Of course, you can also respond to other readers.

When is the best time for the Tigers to bring up a prospect?

1. At the beginning of the year.

2. Late May-June.

3. Towards the end of the year.

VOTE

My Opinion? It depends on the player. For instance, McGonigle should be heading to Detroit to begin the year. Someone like Max Anderson brought up in May or June.
Max Clark could be brought up at the end of the year.

Everyone, and I mean everyone - well except that blogger knows McGonigle is making the opening day roster.
