Tigers Hire A.J. Hinch As New Tigers Manager and New Coaches

GRADING THE 2025 TIGERS – MANAGEMENT.
Totally Tigers

Now that we’ve graded all the players, it’s time to turn our attention to management.
For Manager A. J. Hinch, evaluate him for what he has done given the talent he was handed. You may also include his coaches as a minor point in your evaluation process. Additionally, a comparison between the 2024 and 2025 seasons will assist in your grading.
As you consider PoBO Scott Harris, keep in mind that other Front Office executives factor into the decision-making process, not just Harris. Of course, evaluate the pitching and positional talent he acquired for this season. You should also consider what he has done in a little less than 3 years as PoBO as well as compare the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
Next week, I’ll have a summary report of what fans are saying and final grades for all.
In the meantime, please cast 2 votes for each of the candidates.

SATURDAY SURVEY.

The Detroit Tigers were eliminated from the playoffs at the ALDS level. Since then, we’ve been able to watch or read about the teams who made it past – the Blue Jays, Brewers, Dodgers and Mariners. Watching their players perform has given us a better sense of what this Tigers’ team needs to do in order to advance to the ALCS and World Series.
Scott Harris’ 1st roster was the 2023 one but 2 years later, it remains a largely inherited one. But this team went to the playoffs in 2024 and 2025, improving in both years.
However, we understand that this roster still needs to change in order to reach the next level. There are concerns over all 4 areas of the game – pitching, relieving, hitting and defense.
Based upon what you’ve watched or read about the 4 teams that made it further into the playoffs than the Tigers, how far away do you believe the Tigers are from reaching the World Series?
What year is your estimate?

What year do you believe the Tigers will reach the World Series?

1. 2026

2. 2027

3. 2028

4. 2029 or beyond

WATERCOOLER WEDNESDAY.

Last night, the results for Manager of the Year were announced. A. J. Hinch was not named a finalist. In fact, he has never won that honor given by the BBWAA although Baseball America has named him as such in the past.
Those nominated were:
Blue Jays – John Schneider who took his team from worst to first in the AL East.
Mariners – Dan Wilson who managed his team to their first division crown since 2001.
Guardians – Stephen Vogt who guided his team to a late-season surge over the Tigers to win the AL Central. He won last year.
And now again this year.
Hinch did not make the list this year. But should he have?
For the majority of the year, the Tigers were the 1st or 2nd best team in all of MLB. They garnered the biggest lead out of all 6 divisions.
But things fell apart in August and they took a serious slide and lost the division title. They still had a better record than they did in 2024 and bested analysts’ predictions. They also made the playoffs once again. Almost everyone agreed that he maximized the talent he was given.
If you were on the nominating committee, would you have put his name on the ballot for everything he accomplished? Or did the late-season slide take him out of consideration?

Should A. J. Hinch have been nominated for Manager of the Year?

1. Yes

2. No

LOOKING BACK – Part 1.
Totally Tigers

Every once in a while, it’s interesting to go back in time and see how fans responded to the important moments during the Tigers’ 2025 season. Were they seeing the issues correctly? Did they call an event in advance? Did they remain consistent in their beliefs? Were they proven right?
We last reviewed how fans performed earlier this summer. It’s time now to review the polls readers completed for the last third of the season – August through early October. There are some interesting results.
Grab one of these polls and address it if you like. There is a thought-provoking statement after each one. Tell us what you think.
