Tigers vs. astros Game Thread May 14

Leyland talking up Kelly's performance in his presser.

Don't forget the astros absolutely, positively stink, Jimmy.

You guys gotta remember Valverde didn't pitch spring training. The guy has had ONE appearance where he gave up ONE run. He's been pretty damn good the rest of his outings. Hell, 5 of his 7 innings have been 1-2-3.

Wow how many splits did Potato throw like four or five? And they were nasty...dropping off the map and a good 10mph difference from the fastball. Maybe there's hope after all...

Hes just about unhittable when he has that pitch on.

Its sort of crazy we put up runs when we had Santiago and Kelly in the lineup without Jackson. That won't happen often.

I wonder when we will see Castellanos. He hasn't been that great at AAA but we should still see him this year.

You said the magic words "He hasn't been that great..". He won't be up anytime soon.

DET is now 21-3 when scoring 4 runs or more. 1-12 when not.

Everyone knows Valverde is more effective with sunscreen. Wink, wink.

If Valverde has the splitter going all year, I have no problem with him as the closer.

Cabrera is just amazing. Do people remmeber last year he had a couple 0 for stretches early in the season? The way he looked at the plate in the last game going 0-4 was bad and I thought he might be into one of his little mini slumps, but he obviously straightened some things out and hit the ball hard. If he can avoid those 0-18 or 0-20 slumps this season, he's going to have a historic season stats wise. I can see .355, 45 HRs and 160 RBIs.

I thought a couple of years ago that he could be a .350ish hitter,if he ever quit giving away at bats.and that's what he's done.

The games that I have watched the temp was in the 30's (first game or two and the game he blew) and in those games he couldn't throw it.

It was 46 that game, and we'll never know if he could have thrown it any of those games because he never tried.

41, 63, 53, 66, 71, 46, were the temps of the first 6 games he appeared in, and we saw no splitters. After the blown save he was probably told to throw it or else, and last nights game was 69 so I don't think it's all because of the temperature.

Still, he has to throw it, no matter the circumstances, he can't be an effective pitcher (nobody can) in the Majors with only 1 pitch, which is an average at best, fastball.

Are those the game time temp or the 9th inning temps? In the broadcast both the first and last game they said it was in the 30's.
