Detroit Tigers Gameday: Justin Verlander back on mound versus Indians after flirting with no-hitter.
from Mlive

GAME NOTES
-- Justin Verlander ranks second in the American League in ERA and has allowed two or fewer runs in six of his seven starts this season.

-- Verlander flirted with a no-hitter last Sunday, pitching into the seventh before he allowed a pair of singles in a blowout win in Houston.

-- Verlander is 14-13 in his career against the Indians, but he's 4-0 with a 2.00 ERA in his last five home starts against the Tribe.

-- Cleveland right-handed starter Ubaldo Jimenez is seeking his third straight win for the first time since July 2011. He's 1-6 with a 7.45 ERA in seven starts in Detroit.

-- The Tigers, who have won six of seven at home, stretched their lead over the third-place Indians to two games following their 10-4 win Friday night.

-- Nick Swisher led the Indians with three hits Friday night, falling a homer shy of the cycle. He's hitting .389 with two homers during a five-game hitting streak.

-- Cleveland is 8-29 in Detroit since the start of 2009. Saturday marks the second of 19 games the two teams will meet each other this season.

-- Today's weather forecast calls cloudy skies with a few showers. There's a 30 percent chance of rain. Game time temperature of 57 degrees.

All seven relievers are available out of the bullpen today, Leyland confirmed.

Octavio Dotel got 2nd opinion on elbow from Dr. James Andrews Saturday, but came back same as 1st. Will continue medications, and try throwing after.
Triple-A Toledo infielder Danny Worth (7-day DL with heel contusion) has been cleared and has participated in baseball-related activities.

Last year, the Tigers were 16-17 after 33 games. Two years ago they were 15-18. Now, they're 20-13.

Ryan Raburn out of indians lineup for a third straight day. pinch hit today/Sunday, or start on Sunday?

Decent amount of success for Tigers hitters against Ubaldo Jimenez, but Jimenez had a couple of decent outings among his six starts against Detroit last year.
With the Red Wings off to prepare for Game 7 of their series Sunday, the Tigers are back on their main channels, FS Detroit on TV and 97.1 FM on radio.

There's one quick-moving line of showers coming, so I think the worst-case scenario is a short delay to the start.

Michael Brantley is 10-23 (.435) against JV...highest average for anyone with at least 20 at bats. 3 others with at least 20 at bats also have over a .400 average against him.

I think we all knew about Butler but the other 3 are a bit of a surprise. The other guys are:

Braves BJ Upton is 9-21 (.429)
KC's Billy Butler is 23-55 (.418)
Toronto's Maicer Izturis is 11-27 (.407)

I wonder if they will briefly delay the start. There is a very small pocket of rain about to hit Detroit and looks like it would be gone within 20 minutes. But really it looks like it's just very light rain on the radar.

Flags blowing straight out to left at Comerica Park tonight. Anything hit in the air off Verlander or Ubaldo could get interesting.

Bad start for JV...single, walk, groundout, double. 1-0. 1 out and runners on 1st and 2nd.

Walk. Bases loaded...get Giambi to hit into a DP. Rain starts to fall.

3 walks now a run scores..sheesh!!

2-0 Vulnerable Verlander or is he getting squeezed?

JV gets a very favorable strike call on a 1-1 pitch. It was definitely low. Ends up K'ing Reynolds. 1 more to get.

This is the first time JV has allowed any 1st inning runs this year.
