Happy Mothers Day to all your mom's, grandmoms. I will be leaving soon to spend day with my old mom.

Is Jackson hurt or something? Didn't he just get a off day? He's young enough to not need off days.

The last time he sat they mentioned something about having a sore hamstring so I think that may still be the issue. At least I hope so because he is 4-6 off the pitcher (small sample size, but still).

It has been 10 days since Porcello pitched, after pitching back to back Quality Starts. I expect he will be a little shaky.

Porcello-Pena battery-mates this afternoon?

Well...I'm not exactly overjoyed with how Avila is performing on offense and somewhat on defense, but Brayan isn't exactly tearing the cover off the ball either, with a (albeit much smaller sample-sized) season-slashline of .205/.220/.308 with a .527 OPS and 1 BB, 1 homer, 1 double, 6 Ks, and 5 RBIs in ~40 PAs.

I wasn't about to get my hopes up for a near-repeat of Avila's '11 season @ the plate, and figured that he might be able to do somewhat better than he had last season, but with a current sub-Mendoza slashline of .198/.267/.344 with an OPS of .611 and a projected strikeout total of (career high) 152, he will still have to continue to try to improve to avoid posting his worst-ever seasonal batting stats in his still relatively short time as starting catcher.

Alex may be able to hit a couple over his career high in homers (19) @ his present pace, but also might ~halve his high in walks (73) due to his increased "aggressiveness" during his PAs. Hitting a walkoff homer ~once per month is great to see happen, but striking out in what was a hitter's count or GIDP (esp. with RISP) is not, of course.

According to BBR, Alex led MLB with 10 PBs last year, he has 3 already this season. He was second in the AL for SB allowed, but first in caught stealing, so obviously opposing teams' base-stealers have and likely will continue to run quite often on him.

Most bases are stolen off the pitcher, not the catcher.

Oh look who's in the lineup today. Ol Rugburn. Watch him go 4-4.

Not to look ahead at all but after our 3 upcoming games against Houston, we head to Texas. And the Thursday night matchup is Verlander vs. Darvish.

If so, then what does that say about the Tigers pitching staff overall and their coaching?

I didn't create those stats, just quoted from what I read on BBR in that Avila happened to be @ or near the top of the list of catchers who failed or succeeded in throwing out runners attempting to steal last season, regardless of who happened to be pitching, and whether or not those who tried to steal a base, did so b/c of who was pitching @ the time.

Mudhen flashing some leather. In slow mo that ball somehow hit the OUTSIDE of the thumb area on the glove and somehow ended up inside the mitt.

No polish from shinebox on his first AB vs his former team.

Don Kelly with a single makes Leyland happier then Tuiasosopo with a homer.
