Tigers vs. indians Game Thread May 22

Ballgame and mini-sweep of teh tribbles, but not w/o some troubles.

Another 1-2-3 inning for Valverde! Some great splitters. Good job from Putkonen and Benoit too.

That mini two game sweep of the first place team in front of us was much needed after that debacle in Texas, still worried about JV but great Job offense, max and others going into that horrid place and cooling their asses off! Just what we needed here

Tigers remain with an AL best +55 RD, closest is the rumpers
with a +48.

Miggy inches closer to regaining his '12 AL TC 3 category lead, 35-point BA lead, 9 RBI lead and also now only one homer below davis who has 14.

I am leaning even more in favor of Pena over Avila for starting catcher. (or @ least Brayan getting more starts until/if he proves otherwise).

ok, but fouled it off his hand in the at bat? he wasn't hbp?
I saw that Fielder was hbp and posted that I wouldn't be surprised if the Tigers had one or two hbp after last nights win.

It was in his 3rd AB of the game in the top of the 4th when he K'ed on 3 pitches. After fouling off the 2nd breaking ball off the end of the bat he started shaking his hand out. Then K'ed on the next pitch high and tight and continued shaking the hand on the way to the dugout.

Probably just a stinger but surprising after such a long rain delay it was still bothering him. You can even see him looking at the hand on the assisted HR as he rounded the bases with it obviously still bothering him.

Well let's actually pray it's just a stinger because the last thing we need is him having to miss any time as hot as he is right now.

Agreed. You give Pena the majority of starts until he stops hitting, IMO. Vice versa if Avila starts hitting and Pena slumps. When it is a position you weren't really expecting offense from heading into the year, you have to go with the hot hand...

I think Leyland has already basically put that in play with giving Avila some extra days off (and he says to give Avila time to work himself out of this slump) but in actuality it's because you HAVE to give Pena a little more playing time the way he is swinging the bat.

However in making this move it's perplexing that the same can be said for giving Tuiasosopo more playing time as well instead of Kelly getting all these starts or at the very least giving Avisail some freaking playing time and if your not then send the kid back down to AAA so he can get some consistent AB's and actually develop.

Good win. Tigers are 1/2 game back of the "Native Americans" today. The Tigers have 4 at home vs. MN then 2 at home vs. Pit. The Tribe have 4 @ Boston and 2 @ the Reds. I think the Tigers will take the lead in the Division in this stretch of games and lead it until the end of the season.

What is insane is that Cabrera usually doesn't get hot until the warmer months. That's what makes me think he can have just a moster season.

Jose channeling himself some Tebow with that genuflect?

aahaha, I wasn't the only one to notice, obviously:

Yeah keeping this up he will surely clip the 30m a year mark on his upcoming extension and be WORTH it.

Cabrera 2010-2012

April = .325 BAVG .419 OBP .609 SLG 1.028 OPS

May = .321 BAVG .394 OBP .538 SLG .932 OPS

June = .336 BAVG .427 OBP .607 SLG 1.034 OPS

July = .329 BAVG .408 OBP .629 SLG 1.037 OPS

August = .350 BAVG .447 OBP .597 SLG 1.044 OPS

September = .333 BAVG .417 OBP .645 SLG 1.062 OPS

I wanna know when he has showed he warms up? Because to me, he is pretty much as consistent as it comes.

Cabrera 2013

April = .363 BAVG .436 OBP .559 SLG .995 OPS

May = .418 BAVG .489 OBP .848 SLG 1.337 OPS

His .363 in April sucked. Loser.

Honestly as great as Pujols was BEFORE the large contract I have a hard time even putting him in the same league as Miggy. Cabrera has never really had a fraction of the nagging injuries Pujols seems to have been dealing with for awhile now. But they gave 180m extension to Verlander who is the same age as Miggy so I have no doubt they will do the same with Cabrera.

I believe at some point during this offseason we will see Miggy sign that 5 years 156+ million extension pushing his contract to the magic 200 million total the Tigers gave Verlander as well.
