Tigers vs. twins Game Thread May 23

It's correct to say that this pace won't keep up, but for now it's a lot of fun watching him add to his numbers.

In last 2 seasons -- since joining Tigers -- Prince Fielder is 8-for-16 (.500 BA) w/ 11 RBI following a Miguel Cabrera intentional walk.

Great night in Detroit sports...

Tigers win. Check.

Wings win. Check

Lions and Pistons don't lose. Check.

Speaking of Miggy,I've never seen anyone get into a 0-2 count so fast, and have absolutely no effect on his at bat.

"The Bunt" as it will be forever known as, was an "all's well that ends well" play that illustrates the difference between a Pop-Fisher-Like manager as Leyland and a stratagist like Joe Maddon.

The Rays lost to Toronto 4-3 and here's the Rays' line for the top of the 10th.

J Molina singled to shallow left.
Y Escobar grounded into double play
D Jennings grounded out to shortstop

Some (Lynn Henning) would say "see? Leyland did it right!" But I bet my picture of my dad with Harmon Killebrew that Maddon knew these numbers, from 2012:

Run expectancy numbers, 2012:
100 none out: .857
020 one out .651
120 one out .905

And lost in the Tigers-Twins debate is that no one is slagging Gardenhire for walking Cabrera, which was as ill-advised as having Hunter bunt.

Never thought I would be thankful for "Country" Joe West and his terrible strike zone calls.

I was watching the Twins' cast on MLB network and the announcers were beside themselves after Morneau stuck out to end the game.

I missed the game but the replay I saw says it was going up the middle. It was hit so hard.

It was headed right for the second baseman who was cheating well towards the middle. It hit the pitchers glove and deflected more between 2nd and 1st...and the 2nd baseman couldn't make the play.
