AJ Hinch says Justin Verlander got a new locker from his previous time with the Tigers. He's in between Tarik Skubal and former teammate Framber Valdez, and has "developed a really good relationship" with Skubal.

At 43, JV is now the Kenny Rogers (2006 version) of the Tigers' staff.
Twenty years ago, Justin Verlander was mentored by 41 year-old Kenny Rogers. Now JV gets to return the favor to today's Tigers pitchers.

HARD CHOICES POLL #3 – FRANCHISE FACES.
Totally Tigers

In recognition of the long holiday week that celebrates both Passover and Easter, we’re providing quicker Detroit Tiger fixes for our readers. Afterall, you’re either waiting for hours in line at the airport or scrambling to get ready for guests.
Every day this week, we’re offering new polls for you to cast your votes and have your say. But just not any.
They’re going to be tough. On purpose.
We’re going to give you 2 choices for each question. One vote only. No substitutions.
The first involves the Tigers’ most famous recent franchise faces. Those are the players considered to be the figurehead of the team and most often highlighted, esp. in team and tv promotions.
You’re going to evaluate each on:
  • their contributions and stats
  • how well they represented the Tigers
  • great moments and memories
  • work ethic and team contributions
  • personality
  • your personal connection with them
Both are considered to be first-ballot Hall of Fame players. They are Miguel Cabrera and Justin Verlander.
Please only consider their contributions to the Tigers and not to other teams.
Which one is your favorite?

Who is your favorite franchise face?

1. Miguel Cabrera

2. Justin Verlander

It was close, but I voted JV for 2 reasons. First, he was drafted and came up in the Tigers system. Second, his WAR was a little higher while a Tiger (56.4 - 49.0)

As much as I loved Miggy as a hall of fame hitter, I voted for Verlander too.

Miggy was just an all world hitter with batting titles home run titles rbi titles and the Triple Crown along with 2 MVP's. But he was never the same when he got hurt trying to break up the fight between Prince Fielder and miggy Jr. when that guy was screwing around with fielder's wife.

I agree that JV was home grown, and please believe me when I say this again, that Verlander was the greatest Tigers pitcher I ever saw. That includes every Tigers pitcher worth of being put in the discussion from the mid 50's of Bunning and Lary, into the 60's with Lolich and McLain, into the 70's with Morris, and later years. No other pitcher other than Virgil Trucks threw 2 no hitters as a Tigers pitcher, and no other Tigers pitcher threw 100 plus MPH in the 9th inning ever.

Justin Verlander is back in Detroit with the Tigers for the first time since 2017. “I’m excited to come back and relive it, and kind of embrace the time that I had here and look back fondly, and hopefully continue to leave a mark,” he said.

The Tigers today placed RHP Justin Verlander on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to April 1) with left hip inflammation.
RHP Keider Montero has been recalled from Triple-A Toledo.

HARD CHOICES POLL #6 – THE CY YOUNG WINNERS.
Totally Tigers

In recognition of the long holiday week of Passover and Easter that is just ending, we’re providing quicker Detroit Tiger fixes for our readers. After all, you’re now digging into leftovers or trying to polish off that solid milk chocolate Sanders Easter bunny. Not that I would know anything about the latter….
Today is the last poll but we’re going out with one of the toughest questions for fans to answer. And if you tell us that your brain hurts (shout out to McWatt), then we’ve done our job.
We’re going to give you several choices for each question. One vote only. No substitutions.
Today, we’re focusing on the Cy Young Award winners – Tarik Skubal and Justin Verlander.
You’re going to evaluate each on:
  • their contributions and stats
  • how well they represent(ed) the Tigers
  • great moments and memories
  • work ethic and team contributions
  • personality
  • your personal connection with them
While Skubal has only been a Tiger, JV has not. Please evaluate him for his work while wearing the Olde English D – going on 14 years.
Consider that while a Tiger, JV finished in the top 5 in CY voting during 6 of his 13 years here. He won it once (while also winning MVP) but legitimate controversy involving
1 single vote robbed him of winning it 2 more times while a Tiger. (He won it 2 times as an Astro.)
Going on his 7th year as a Tiger, Skubal has won back-to-back CYs. For the other years, he did not place in the top 5 in voting.
