Why Michigan left the Big Ten

Some history I was unfamiliar with. Kind of interesting that we became rivals with OSU, MSU, and ND because they were not Big Ten members in the years the Big Ten was blackballing Michigan.

To be clear, Michigan only played ND twice in that time period. But the second game was a win for ND, which led to the severing of that relationship.

Canham's book described this, only in his telling it comes out less charitable to Yost & Michigan. he maybe didn't have the backstory of Stagg's dealings. in his version its Yost vs. the UM administration.

Leaving the conference did hurt us though. that was a mistake.
