2019 Lions Offseason Moves, Lions re-sign LS Don Muhlbach

https://www.prideofdetroit.com/2019...podcast-roster-breakdown-comparison-2018-2019
Pride Of Detroit Lions Podcast Have the Detroit Lions gotten better or worse in a year? A positional breakdown. 68 minutes.
We examine which positions have improved since May 2018.

At this point last year, Detroit Lions fans were pretty excited. Despite two unpopular moves of franchise tagging Ezekiel Ansah and cutting Eric Ebron, most were in agreement that Detroit has a pretty solid offseason, and coming off a 9-7 season expectation were high for first-time head coach Matt Patricia.

Obviously, things didn?t work out too well. But now optimism is renewed. Patricia is in Year 2 of his Lions tenure, and many are feeling the roster has improved drastically, especially when it comes to Patricia?s vision of the team.

But just how improved is this roster? And has it improved in all areas? Has it gotten worse anywhere?

That?s the topic of this week?s PODcast, as Jeremy, Ryan and Chris go down each roster position and compare the 2018 and 2019 rosters. Are the Lions better, worse or the same?

This week?s episode:
There?s no doubt the tight end position is one of the most improved, but does it make up for the losses at wide receiver? T.J. Hockenson + Jesse James = Losses of Golden Tate + TJ Jones?

Is the Lions? bad quarterback depth better or worse than last year?s?

How bad of shape is the Lions? offensive line without T.J. Lang? Is the development of Frank Ragnow and Tyrell Crosby enough to offset it?

The defensive line is better. A lot better.
Without a doubt the defense is better, but what is the ceiling? Top 10? Top 5?

Mailbag talks offseason hobbies, Netflix/Hulu recommendations, running game expectations and why the Lions didn?t go after Zach Brown.

Detroit Lions Breakdown Podcast Episode #107: Camp Battles. 51 minutes.

Well over a week has passed since the draft and things are settling down across the NFL. That gives Erik and Joe the opportunity to discuss the current roster construction and the impending battles to look forward to, or lament, in training camp.

LT Taylor Decker had his 5th year option picked up.

NT Darius Kilgo joins the team after being an understudy in Tennessee.

Ziggy Ansah says so long, and signs with the Seattle Seahawks.

Rookie mini-camp dates are announced and will begin Friday (5/10).

OTAs Phase 3 next week.

Houston will host the Lions during Week 2 of the preseason for joint practices.

Matthew Stafford has an obvious defender in Rod Wood.

Check out Erik?s latest Lions Roster Stack: Post-NFL Draft.

Scott Warheit delivered a post-draft 53-man roster projection.

The Lions have a multitude of wide open position battles that need to be discussed.

A position by position breakdown of who has the early lead for starting roles at right guard, WILL linebacker, outside cornerback and third safety.

What players could end up in potential backend of the roster battles.

Special Thanks to Storm Gypsy for the 5-star review!

To make room for these two, the Lions released two tight ends: Nate Becker and Donald Parham.
It?s a mild surprise to see Parham released, seeing as his huge frame?6-foot-8?made him an intriguing addition.

Detroit Lions shake up scouting staff.
For the second time in three years, Bob Quinn is shaking up his scouting staff.

For the second time in three years, the Detroit Lions are making some significant changes to their scouting department. We already knew that Director of Pro Scouting Brendan Prophett was on his way out (he also accepted a job with the Giants already). On Saturday, the Lions announced a full shakeup of that department:

The Lions announced today the following updates to the team's player personnel staff.
Dave Sears - Director of College Scouting
Rob Lohman - Director of Pro Scouting
Justin Licker - Pro Scout
Noor Davis - Scouting Assistant
Jordan Martin - Scouting Assistant

Dave Sears and Rob Lohman were both promoted from within. Sears served as the team?s assistant director of college scouting for the past two seasons, but has been part of the organization since 2007, first starting as a regional scout.

Lohman similarly was promoted from an assistant director position on the pro scouting side, where he served for the past three seasons. Noor Davis and Jordan Martin were new hires, while Justin Licker was promoted from scouting assistant to pro scout.

Back in 2017, the Lions made a pretty significant shakeup with their scouting staff, most notably promoting Kyle O?Brien to Vice President of Player Personnel.
