2023 Baseball Hall of Fame Ballot Released - Scott Rolen elected to HOF

Not sure any of these candidates are worthy. ARod yes if you don?t care about the roids (I?m old school and do, sorry not sorry, if you put them in put an asterisk). Scott Rolen or Todd Helton are maybes.

DEEPER DISCUSSIONS.
Totally Tigers

The latest list of candidates for the Baseball Hall of Fame were released last week. And one person?s name has now created a new discussion surrounding the topic of cheating.

Carlos Beltran.

But instead of PEDs, Beltran is heavily connected to the Houston Astros cheating scandal. He was the only player named in the report and described as the ?ringleader.? He came up with the plan to bang on trash cans.

His teammates said he intimidated them into participating even though they didn?t want to be a part of it.

Even though he was given immunity, Beltran denied being a part of it. He later laid blame on the Astros owner and GM, saying that if they had asked him to stop it, he would have.

Now that he is eligible for the Hall of Fame, he will face scrutiny over voting because of the Character Clause written into the voting rules back in 1945. It states that a player ?shall be chosen on the basis of playing ability, sportsmanship, character, their contribution to the teams on which they played and to baseball in general.?

Assuming that Beltran?s playing career is among the best of the best, should the character clause be used against him? Should he get into Cooperstown? Is flagrant cheating as serious as using PEDs to set records?

Today?s blog addresses this dilemma and allows readers to share their thoughts in more detail. And hopefully, to actively engage with others by responding to their posts and creating back-and-forth discussion threads. The more the merrier!

For this one blog only, you?ve got 6 sentences max to share your thoughts. Of course, you can respond to as many other readers as you want.

TT will supply the ammunition. One thought-provoking question. Several options provided. One hard choice to be selected. One vote.

Ready?

Should Carlos Beltran be elected to the Hall of Fame?

1. No

2. Yes
