3 former Lions make first cut for Pro Football Hall of Fame?s 2020 class.
Mlive

Nominees from the modern-era are trimmed from 122 to 25 semifinalists in November and then down to 15 finalists after the regular season. As part of the NFL?s centennial celebration, the Pro Football Hall of Fame will induct 20 members in 2020. The selection committee for this year?s class includes football historians, current voters and Hall of Famers.

This year?s inductees will include five modern-era players, 10 players retired for more than 25 seasons, three ?contributors? and two coaches. Those selected will be formally inducted with ceremonies taking place between Aug. 6-9 and Sept. 16-19 of 2020.

?The Hall of Fame Board recently passed a resolution that suspended the Hall of Fame?s Selection Committee By-Laws for the Class of 2020 election cycle only,? a press release from the Pro Football Hall of Fame reads. ?The measure is intended to honor the NFL?s Centennial Celebration through a special Centennial Class that will be comprised of 20 members in 2020.?

The Hall is expanding the class to 20 for 2020 in honor of the 100th year of the NFL. That gives the former Lions a better chance, though it?s unlikely any make it given the quantity of other quality nominees. And Herman Moore continues to be a flagrant omission.

Relatives continue push to get record-setting Lion Don Doll in Hall of Fame.
Detnews

These were the facts: Despite playing just six seasons, Don?s 41 career interceptions top any six-year stretch among Hall-of-Fame defensive backs;
Doll intercepted a pass in 58 percent of his games and averaged 6.83 interceptions per season, NFL records that still stand today;
he?s tied for the single-game interception record with four; and he?s the only player in NFL history with three double-digit interception seasons.

I think the way these people get in or are held out of the hall of fame (in all sports) is pretty stupid. Either they are worthy or they aren't. This guy died 8 years ago. What changed in that time frame? Why wasn't he in a long time ago? I don't know too much about him since it was way before my time but putting him in now seems like almost a slap in the face. What is worse is the stupid "is he a first ballot HOF'er?". So a guy is great, everybody knows he will get in but the voters keep a guy off the ballot because they don't want him in on the first one? T.O. comes to mind here.

I guess Karras' kids are probably happy...but if it were my dad, He retired in 1970, I'd be pissed they did this after he was dead.

The Fearsome Foursome.
Wikipedia

The nickname "Fearsome Foursome" was later used to describe the 1962 Detroit Lions line of Roger Brown, Alex Karras, Darris McCord, and Sam Williams.

Karras was a member of the NFL's 1960s all-decade team and played alongside Hall of Famers Joe Schmidt, Lem Barney and Yale Lary in Detroit.

Karras was a mauler on the Lions defensive line. He used his college wrestling moves to take to the ground and tackle anyone who got in his way of tackling a RB or QB.
The reason for his taking decades instead of a few years to get enshrined was his admitting to gambling on football games while he was a part owner of Lindells AC Bar a known club for gamblers and mobsters. Hornung apologized for his part in gambling and then Commissioner Pete Rozelle forgave him but Karras refused to apologize and Rozelle and the NFL made it difficult for Karras.
It is sad he will be enshrined posthumously. His great nephew Ted Karras plays for the Patriots.
