93rd All-Star Game Starting Lineups A.L and N.L. July 11, 2023

With the boom of the internet, the addition of interleague play and the MLB package came the fall of the all star game. Kids/fans can watch other teams/players anytime they want now. There is no reason to play it anymore.

Unlike the NFL......an actual skills competition that has contests relevant to actually playing baseball. They have a HR derby of course. How about catcher pop times and throwing arm. IF/OF throwing arm and accuracy. Fastest runner 1st to 3rd. Home to 1st.

To me, that's WAY more interesting than the game. Can you imagine watching a Tre Turner vs. Elly De La Cruz 1st to 3rd showdown?? That's good shit.

DEEPER DISCUSSIONS.
Totally Tigers

The All-Star game will be played in 2 days. Representing the Tigers will be Michael Lorenzen who was selected as a reserve by the AL manager.

It is presumed that if Eduardo Rodriguez had not been injured, he would have been the team?s representative.

But do you agree with the selection of Lorenzen? Through Friday?s games, he sports a 3-6 record and 4.03 ERA.

Do the Tigers have a better candidate?

Would you select Miguel Cabrera who has been picking it up at the plate and is in his last year before retirement?
Or Alex Lange who ranks in the top 10 of relievers?
Or Matt Vierling who sports both the team?s best slash line and is a plus defender.

Tell us who you would have selected from the list below.

Today?s blog allows readers to share their thoughts in more detail. And hopefully, to actively engage with others by responding to their posts and creating back-and-forth discussion threads. The more the merrier!

For this one blog only, you?ve got 6 sentences max to share your thoughts.
Of course, you can respond to as many other readers as you want.
Ready?

Who is your choice to represent the Tigers at the All-Star game?

1. Miguel Cabrera

2. Alex Lange

3. Michael Lorenzen

4. Matt Vierling

VOTE

Earlier this week I ran a Twitter poll asking which of three Detroit Tigers pitchers not on the injured list ? Jason Foley, Alex Lange, and Michael Lorenzen ? is most deserving of an All-Star berth. I included ?other? as a fourth option. (Thanks to our friends at Tigers blog Bless You Boys for retweeting the poll; their doing so increased the number of Detroit-centric fans casting votes.)

The results were telling. Lorenzen, who was chosen to represent the Tigers in the All-Star game, finished dead last with only 6.2% of support. ?Other? got 7.4%, while Lange garnered 32% and Foley came out on top with 54.5%.

I?m inclined to agree with the majority. Lorenzen, a starter who was in the process of throwing five scoreless innings while the poll was running, has a 4.03 ERA, a 4.17 FIP, and 66 strikeouts in 87 innings. Foley, who has pitched in a team-high 38 games, has three saves to go with a 2.09 ERA, a 2.16 FIP, and 34 strikeouts in 38-and-two-thirds innings.
All-Star or not, Foley has quietly emerged as Detroit?s most-reliable reliever.
