I was scolded and told I am not allowed to say anything even remotely negative about Cabrera in the other thread. This thread will be dedicated to ALL things related to Cabrera, even if they aren't flattering.

This is what happens when you call him below average, you need to start a new thread.

You were asked not to shit in the Miggy thread months ago, don't give any of us that selective memory bullshit.

shitting on Miggy by calling him below average?

You have said a lot worse than calling him below average about him in the thread... A Lot worse.
I think you will be happy here with your own little thread and buddies to take all of your pokes at 39 year old Miggy playing hurt like he has played hurt for the last several years.

I get it. I actually really appreciate all you do on these Tigers threads. I enjoy reading and posting. I just feel that these should be forums that we can speak our mind, and share opinions, even if others don't agree with them.

Miggy had an amazing run, but its time. They gave him a couple years to get 3000 and 500. If he comes back next year he's just being selfish. He has nothing left to give.

I dont see how pointing that out requires constant attacks from mods. If he said the shit that some here say about Avila then I'd understand, but he hasn't gone nearly as far as some of you have on that front.

I think you should be able to say anything about a players play?.good or bad. It?s an opinion?.and one just about everyone agrees on.

The Tigers gave him the opportunity to get to his milestones?..as they should have. It?s time to move on. Injured or not?..he is a below average hitter at this point. He is very realistically taking a roster spot for someone who deserves it. Let him finish the year? Of course. But there is no reason for him to be on the Tigers roster in 2023.

None.

Yes and you and the rest of the guys here do that which is to post how you feel about players, the front office, and anything about this team past and present.

The Miggy appreciation thread and the countdown and his place in all categories and rankings in Tigers history and MLB history was explained at the beginning that this thread was to be left alone from our frustrations of an older great player making more money than he would deserve and who is and has played hurt for many years, Just That Thread.
Well, I also asked at the beginning to leave the Tigers Team Notes thread alone and it is the reason I post many stories of the Tigers in the other threads so all of you can have at it and comment pro or con in those and let the team notes be a running stream of Tigers news.

This thread was started by Tigermud and I knew when it began there would be the calling out of an older less powerful Miggy and his large yearly salary.
No one in their right mind would have turned that amount of money and years down no matter what the age, especially a player on the back end of his career by the time the contract was up.

So have at it here and enjoy. It will most likely last not much more than to the end of 2023 if not sooner.

WATERCOOLER WEDNESDAY.
Totally Tigers

Today, another opportunity for readers to discuss the hottest topics in a forum where thoughtful dialog and a variety of opinions are welcomed.

Let?s create some running conversational threads. And for those of you still going into offices, here?s a question to take with you ? or use via Zoom ? as you talk to your co-workers.

Here is today?s topic:

Last week, Miguel Cabera seemed to indicate that he was pondering retirement after this year. In interviews, he talked about how much his right knee was hurting and inhibiting his ability to play the game. The very next day, he backtracked on his comments and said he would be back for the 2023 season.

Miggy was diagnosed in 2019 with a chronic knee condition that 4 top specialists recommended not to be treated with surgery. His manager, A. J. Hinch, said that Miggy?s knee is now forcing him into a part-time role with the team. He will no longer be able to play 2 days in a row.

Cabrera has 1 more season with Detroit and will be paid a guaranteed $32 mill. The Tigers will also need to pay him an additional $8 mill as a buyout for the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

Starting now and going through next year, Miggy will be playing approximately 3 days a week as a part-time player. But he will take up a full roster spot that will complicate the rebuilding process, maintaining a 40-man roster and bringing up prospects. Overall, this will slow the rebuilding process.

Is keeping Miggy on the roster the best thing to do?

Shouldn?t he have an official farewell tour in 2023 before he retires?

Or should the Tigers move forward without Miggy after this season?

Is there another role Cabrera could play with the team?

What do you believe is the best way to approach this dilemma?
What should the Tigers do about Miggy?

1. Let him play in 2023 and give him a farewell tour.

2. Turn him into a hitting coach for 2023.

3. Have him retire after this season (2022).

VOTE

I voted #3. It's clear that he isn't helping the team and it will be worse next year.

They need to hire a proven hitting coach.

Since it seems the Tigers are going to let Cabrera play next year, it's time to put him on the 60 day IL and let Carpenter be the full time DH.

Cabrera in August

.094 BA
.171 OBP
.265 OPS

Maybe the Tigers will hire a GM with some balls and just buy him out.

I honestly would like to know what the reasoning is for the fan base that wants him to keep playing. He's basically already been given a 5 year swan song. Enough is enough! He had a great run, but he's trash now.

yes. I would go to the Tigers and tell them I will retire if they pay what they owe me.

Why would they do that? Buy out maybe or a Bonilla type deal but no one will say retire here's your full money. We don't even know if they're dissatisfied with Miggy.

they do it to save face. If they cut him the fan base will be pissed. If they work out a deal that where Cabrera get his money but is off the roster, everyone wins.

Obviously as a Tigers fan, I'd want him to retire and therefore forego his remaining salary. But there's absolutely no reason for Cabrera to do that, so I'd do more of #1. I'd play him at DH (or first for a few innings in the NL) the first game of every series. He's never playing back to back, and it creates a sort of Cabrera day for every town we travel to. It gives plenty of time for Tigers fans to find a game to attend, and it probably also helps increase attendance for "Cabrera" games late in the season. I'd probably also have him play the final home game and have a big celebration.w
