Anyone Going to Indy?

Hadn?t really thought specific logistics and I?ve been to Indy a number of times through the years but if we?re staying at Hyatt - downtown, would it make sense to just drive to Lucas Oil? Drinking/Driving is irrelevant and I don?t mind paying ?$40? to park like a Broncos game, but Food/Eat before the game ? should we eat downtown and then go or Go and figure out food there? Prefer something better than Stadium food but not looking for Chop House or anything fancy. Last ?Bowl? game I went to was the BWW Shitfest w/Kansas State but a fun and blurry time prepartying with Tinsel the Mrs Tinsel and a few other Board Regs if I recall.

But we?d also been at a Moonshine Bar in Scottsdale before that and really hadn?t eaten much in the way of food at all ?. MILL STREET

I do have an Extra ticket and honestly, I?m a DeadHead and may just Miracle some student outside the Stadium. Back in the day at a Show if we needed a ticket we?d send Stacey out to the lot and she?d come back in 5-mins, ticket in hand. If one of us scrubs went out looking, nada.

GOBLUE

thinking of dressing as Harbaugh and dammit if my kiddo doesn?t look a bit like JJ!

As the only local Indy rep on the board, don't drive to Lucas Oil. It's a 0.5 mile walk straight down Capitol from the Hyatt to Lucas Oil. Super easy walk. There's a good Mexican restaurant on Maryland Street really close to the Hyatt called Nada. Yard House is close as well if you just want a sports bar type atmosphere. That might be packed. Like I mentioned in an earlier post, crowds for restaurants and bars were absolutely insane last year.

If you like Italian, who doesn't, there's a great restaurant just a bit south of the stadium. It's called Iozzo's Garden of Italy. It's a one mile walk from the Hyatt. I would call them about reservations to be sure you can get in. https://iozzos.com/

Another spot 0.7 mile away from the Hyatt (just south of the stadium) is Shapiro's Delicatessen. Matzo ball soup is fantastic and their sandwiches are great as well.

A traditional bar food spot that does things well is Loughmiller's Pub & Eatery. 0.4 mile away from Hyatt and less than a mile walk to the stadium.

I'm hesitant to make a ton of recommendations because it was so hard for my wife and I to find a place to eat last year. Hope you have better luck!

I thought surely I was going to be able to ?wingman? gobluebigJohn into a tryst with an older (than him) yet, still quite hot Kansas State fan.

Too bad, no, I guess.

Would have made up for suffering through that horrible game.

Dude, THANK YOU!!!! I talked a college friend in NY into jumping on a plane with his 16yr old son to join us, so the five of us will be together. I was wondering about the walk vs drive and walking is the only answer!! Awesome! Think I will make a reservation for Sat dinner beforehand somewhere and Yardhouse, etc would be great. Seriously, thank you for the reply and help!!

Happy to help!

Iowa is less a functional football team now, and more the "Estate Plan" for the Ferentz Family Trust.

Well, Cade went to Iowa. Not sure what sales pitch they had. I believe LaPorta and Ragaini are both gone after this season and those were their only quality receiving options. Lachey looks like he could be a good TE replacement for LaPorta, but no one else on their team had over 200 yards receiving this year. No weapons and Brian Ferentz as OC? How do you sign up for that?

You know, I?d give the Lucas Stadium bathrooms a B ? some are oddly small and others huge, but you can?t tell when you get in line what you?re headed for but on the whole, I?ve seen far, far worse and not just at Concerts.

Glad to hear you had an awesome time, Vic! Did you find a good spot for dinner before the game?

Our group was too big to get in anywhere, so we ended up watching the ridiculous St. Elmo's shrimp eating contest (it was disgusting) on Georgia Street and then headed to an outdoor party that wasn't crowded when we first got there. The crowd definitely picked up and we had a ridiculously good time tailgating/pre-partying before kickoff.

We are inside at the Fan Party and saw both marching bands and the boys did a lot of the events - throwing pass thru Dr Pepper can, 40yd dash, etc. It was better than trying to get into anywhere w/waits - thanks for that heads up too.

Saw the St Elmo?s shrimp cocktail stand but not a contest, though the waiter told us Joey Chestnut holds the record at 30lbs or something gross like that ?lol!

Yeah, the shrimp cocktail eating contest was really gross. The winner put down over 16 lbs of shrimp in eight minutes. Chestnut came in fourth with over 10 lbs.

is there any kind of eating contest that isn't really gross? I feel like eating contests are a bad idea generally

I learned that by watching like 2 minutes of a chicken wing eating contest they had at my work ~ 12 years ago

You are right. They are all super gross and a complete waste. How many hungry kids could be fed with that food? I'm sure it's way more than seven assholes stuffing it in their face for a competition.

The latest climate change projections now have worldwide population numbers declining significantly - or collapsing - by 2050 now. More people will starve to death, more will die in conflicts over resources, and fewer kids will be born.

A big part of that is "loss or agricultural land" due to rising temperatures or weather patterns. That means even if we have food, it will be a lot more expensive to grow and buy and so we'll have less of it, and less variety. Get used to bowls of rice or porridge for half your meals.

"food porn" cooking shows and eating contests are going to seem surreal by then.

On the brightside... America's Obesity Epidemic will go away!

Go Blue!

Alternatively, some believe none of this stuff will happen, everything will be fine, and there are never consequences to our actions...

So who knows, right? :hmm:
