Keeping the DC is the most confusing. Patricia was obviously brought in to fix the defense, and has been a maybe failure. How does he escape all responsibility here AND it doesn't get pinned on the DC?

The only reason I can come up with as to why Pasqualoni was fired is that Quinn convinced Martha that if they fail next season the whole coaching staff would be let go. After being 26th in points allowed and 31st in yards allowed, any DC in that position should be replaced.

I saw a couple people say that Pasqualoni's contact was up so he doesn't actually have to be fired just not re-signed, like what they did with JBC. Let's not be mistaken though, this is Patricia's defense.

That's the way it works. HC keep their jobs longer because they have coaches they can fire. GM can keep their job because they have a HC to fire. A long list of "look at me I'm rich and do nothing for it.."

How often does an NFL team have to fill 8 coaching vacancies in an offseason?

Here?s a look at the eight vacancies the Lions have now:
Offensive line coach
Tight ends coach

Linebackers coach

The bad thing about this is if they decide to fire him at the end of next season he has all these coaches who with a new HC will pick his own staff.

Who would be a good new DC?

Bring gym shorts back?

Or should I just simply ask which patriots assistant quintrica will target first?

Pride Of Detroit Lions Podcast: Breaking down our favorite defensive coordinator candidates for the Detroit Lions. 41 minutes.
We go deep on the DC candidates in our latest podcast.

We?re not even a full week into the offseason, but it was time to already sound the alarms and congregate for an emergency PODcast. The Detroit Lions fired six members of their coaching staff on Tuesday, and followed it up by the ?resignation? of two more on Thursday, including defensive coordinator Paul Pasqualoni.

While none of these moves were particularly surprising, they do leave the Lions in a very interesting position. With the pressure on to be a significant playoff contender in 2020 and the Senior Bowl just weeks away, Matt Patricia and his current staff must find replacements quickly and it all has to come together immediately.

So myself and Kent Lee Platte joined on Wednesday evening to discuss the decisions made by the staff, why we think they made them and who we think could fill some of the vacancies left by this week?s moves.

This week on the EMERGENCY PODcast:
Are we buying that Paul Pasqualoni voluntarily stepped down? (Spoiler: Nope).

Which, if any, of these moves were surprising?

Is this coaching overhaul just part of the overall rebuild? How long until this new group of coaches gels?

Will Matt Patricia go out of his comfort zone again, like he did at offensive coordinator?

Jeremy and Kent run through their favorite DC candidates and wade through the realistic and unrealistic options.

Is the Lions? new offensive line coach already on staff?
