Here is the Tigers' chance to totally redeem themselves from that ill-advised trade that sent him along with Gorkys Hernandez to Atlanta for the mediocre and disappointing SS Edgar Renteria!!
I still remember all of the grumbling and bitching over this trade on the ESPN Tigers messageboard during that cellar-dwelling and miserable '08 season when the Tigers SP roto was led by Armando Galarraga's 3.73 ERA and 13-7 W/L record. Ex-Marlins SP Dontrelle Willis turned out to be a serial headcase, and the Tigers' vaunted offense was predicted by many scribes to potentially score 1000 runs, after trading for Renteria, Jones, and Cabrera but the team ended up giving up more runs (857) than they scored (821)
Seriously though, it is likely that some SP rotation-challenged ballclub may take a chance on Jair @ age 27, maybe the Twinks or Royals in the ALCD, although his pitching stats really took a tumble last season, due in part to his re-injured (bone-bruised) knee that he had surgery on during the prior off-season, and required two separate stints on the DL.
Jurrjens has obviously had some difficulty staying injury-free throughout his career, but when he was healthy, he was often one of the better if not one of the best SPs in the NL. A one-year contract with his salary based on his ability to stay healthy and perhaps predicated on the amount of IP "might" be in the offing.
