Lots of popups, Detroit not catching up to the fastball.

Gibson: "Just don't throw it down and in". Flaherty throws two pitches down and in, and the second goes over the fence....

The pitfall when you fall behind 3-0.
That doesn't force the pitcher to groove it straight into the batter's happy zone; the rest of the strike zone is a possibility. Of course, Flaherty was probably aiming for something a bit to one side or the other of where those pitches ended up.

That's why its easier to hit when ahead in the count. The pitch wasn't a fastball. He just went and got it.

Of course it's easier to hit when you are ahead in a count; you can look for anything in your happy zone. Don't pitch there, and the odds get better.

I don't like the fact 2 walks, 4 straight on Greene, and HBP and you swing at the first pitch.

He didn't want to walk him. I'm sure he missed his mark but don't fall behind 3 and 0 and he won't have that problem.
