he's not talking about last years draft class..lol

the incoming class has no effect on the cap until final cuts are made....and if one of them happen to be in the top 51 salaries...which picking at #23 is doubtful.

Hogue, A Berry & R Donahue make $500 or less....I guarantee at least 2 drafts picks will make more

maybe...last years pick at #54 made a 375k base and 1.1 million dollar SB over 4 years.

Danny Watkins, last years #23 overall pick, got 4 years at about $8M. That's pretty comparable to the Lions this year since OL is a distinct possibility at #23, so it's nearly a head to head comparison.

Since the contract is likely to escalate over the course of the 4 years, you're probably looking at under a million for year one, maybe just over a million after you pre-rate the signing bonus.

Rookie signings should account for less than $3.5M total against the cap for 2012 (rough guess based on our draft position) and that will likely be shaved off in final roster cuts to come out near flush.

Oh, and just to add, more than a few of this years deals are going to end up heavily backloaded to fit more into 2014 and beyond when the cap takes a big jump. 1st round picks are probably going to be the only expensive ones, unless the team decides to draft a QB in the early rounds, which is doubtful.

Those round three and earlier QBs always seem to want 1st round money for some reason. I understand that QBs are typically paid higher than other positions, but it's not like a 3rd stringer is all THAT darned critical to have to pay big if you take one early.

Watkins SB counts over $1 Mill against the cap, not even including his base salary

lol...seriously the rookies are NOT a problem with the cap at all.

only your top 51 count towards your cap which has been pointed out at nauseum....they'll shed salary at final cuts that will probably equal any rookie deals given out....it's a wash.

Yep, you're right. He counted for just under $1.5M against the cap his rookie year.

Jets got Landry for 1.7 million with a shitload of on field incentives to get it to 4 million.

Good deal IMO. Btw Slick, why a new ID? You could have kept the old Slick info over here?

Or are you saying you have a different email and can't access the old one?
