Lions agree to contract extension with LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin

Today it was announced that the Detroit Lions agreed to a contract extension with linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin. The extension was confirmed by Reeves-Maybin’s agent, Brian McLaughlin and it was announced by Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network.

The details of the contract were confirmed as a two-year contract at $7.5 million deal worth a max of $8 million. The deal makes Reeves-Maybin the highest-paid core special-teamer ever.

During the 2017 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions selected Tennessee linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin in the 4th round. After five seasons with the team, he signed with the Houston Texans, where he recorded 15 tackles as a special teams player.

Taking on the role as a special teams player, Reeves-Maybin returned to Detroit last off-season. He became a key piece for the Lions down the stretch of the season and he earned his first career Pro Bowl appearance because of his performance. Re-signing with Detroit felt inevitable for him as he found a key role on special teams and made an impact when blitzing or dropping into coverage for the Lions defense.
