Lions hire Randy Edsall, former UConn/Maryland Coach

taken from Mlive's story on Edsall's hiring.

While it hasn't been announced what Edsall's role with the Lions will entail, it appears general manager Bob Quinn is continuing to pattern Detroit's front office after the New England Patriots.

The Patriots also have a director of football research, Ernie Adams.

Adams' role with the Patriots is shrouded in mystery, but the Boston Globe did an outstanding feature on him last year.

"Adams works up to 100 hours per week during the season. He studies film, devours statistics, reports on trends, and develops strategies on 2-point conversions, fourth-down attempts, and timeout preservations. He runs the vaunted Patriot "value chart,'' helping Belichick on personnel decisions regarding free agents, trades, and the draft. He appears to be the voice inside Belichick's head for 60 minutes every Sunday, but no one will say for sure."
It's also worth noting Quinn got his start in football as a graduate assistant at UConn in 1998, while Edsall was still the school's head coach.

Quinn has aggressively shaped his front office staff in recent weeks. He brought on Jaguars director of college scouting Kyle O'Brien to be Detroit's director or player personnel, signed Kevin Anderson on as his chief of staff and hired Matt Harriss away from the New York Giants to serve as the team's vice president of football administration.

The Lions also hired a new strength coach, scout and offensive assistant this past week.

Hey. Right or wrong the guy has a plan. That's more than I could say about the Lions front office for the previous decade and a half.

At this rate, We will have a director of Gatorade tubs by next week :D
