I didn't realize this was in the works, and the announcement was pretty quiet. Just saw it in the Michigan Today newsletter:
Santa J. Ono, an accomplished biomedical researcher and the president and vice chancellor of the University of British Columbia, has been named the 15th president of the University of Michigan.
The Board of Regents voted unanimously to appoint Ono during a special meeting July 13 in Ann Arbor. Ono, who previously served as president of the University of Cincinnati and senior vice provost and deputy to the provost at Emory University, will officially step into the U-M role Oct. 14.
