Pole vaulting has been a really uncommon skill since like the 80's. I think in my 4 years of HS track, I saw a pole vaulting included in a meet maybe 2-3 times.

My high school still does it. At least up til covid.

Yeah, I remember being surprised to learn any did, and my coach said we had dropped it a long time before that because of liability concerns.

it's easy to see why: do it half-right and you're a dozen feet or more off the ground... screw up the landing and you might be coming down hard off the cushion on your side, or worse head & neck.
