How is it that we have no depth on this team like some people are claiming? Only area that maybe concerns me is DE. Not sure what Webster is going to bring, but I trust in Austin to put someone there. Everywhere else seems to be solid across the board...

i don't even like our potential starters at RT. therefor, eventhough we technically have bodies behind the starter....its not good depth.

QB depth is awful

WR im sure we'll hear excuses if Calvin goes down

DT depth is suspect at best after Ngata....not a single one of them is proven

LB is stacked

Corner depth is awful and always injured.

Safety depth is isprlkje abdoi;lkgkjg quibisojljss. Aka not that great.

WR depth is great. Tate behind Calvin. Two number 1s. Great slot depth with Moore added. TE great. So the two combined is lots of weapons. Plus all our RBs can catch.

Interior Oline great depth.

Tackle depth is fine if you like Lucas and Robinson.

DT depth is very good. Wright and Reid is better depth than last year.

DE depth is strong with Tapp, Webster, Taylor and Wootton.

LB depth great.

CB depth is good. We have many solid nickels. And Carter (3rd round talent) and Seisay (some experience) for outside CB depth. That is better than most teams.

Safety depth is great with IAQ and Carey. Both experienced.

3 guys fighting for that RT spot? I call that good depth

If any starting QB goes down on any team...they're pretty much fucked. Lets be real about that.

CJ is a monster. Of course people will complain, but Tate proved to the world that he can step in and be a #1. Plus adding some vets bolstered that corp.

I agree with you on the "proven" statement with our DTs. Even though Walker has shown that he belongs. Question is, can he hold it down for 4 quarters? He's probably going to start here. Something he hasn't done in his young career. Guys like Wright , Proctor are depth though

Corners and Safeties are all healthy right now. Guys start falling, then theres trouble. I love the depth we have.

You're not going to get starter material for your depth. So what's your definition of depth?

DT depth is better than last year. Wright is more talented than Mosley. And Reid is in his second year. Plus Fairley missed half the year so most of the year the depth was Fluellen and Reid. Wright and second year Reid surely are better than that.

Walker playing 16 is probably better than Fairley playing 7 games. DT 2 is upgraded just by availability. Mosley is a good run defender but a terrible pass rusher. Wright and Walker offer way more in pass rush. And Walker can play the run. He proved that with Saints.

Nobody has 4th string depth when 2 guys get hurt. It's simple math. 22*2=44. 3 specialists. 47. That leaves only 6 for 3rd string. Lions have good 2nd string depth and 3rd string depth in many areas.

Hughes wants us 3 deep everywhere with a 1st or 2nd rounder waiting in the wings.

Wright is a rookie...therefore, we have no idea if he's better than Mosely. And Reid...what'd he do last year that makes you think he's a capable backup. If Ngota goes down, we're fucked.

We're fine on the OL, good with our RBs, WRs, and TEs. DE, we're better than most think we are. CB...our DC proved he can put anybody back there and still be okay. Safety is a bit of a concern depthwise, but the starters are really good. LB core is the best I've ever seen in Detroit.

Don't pretend there is great depth everywhere. That DT spot is scary unless you've proof that 3 of our top 4 tackles have a REAL history of success and you don't. I like the potential but until September, it's only potential.

The DT depth is more talented. Mosley couldn't rush the passer. Wright can. Wright is more talented than Mosley. Wright is younger. And like I said the depth for most of the year was rookie Reid and Fluellen. We have better depth than last year and Wright and Reid are good young talents. That is what you want for depth. The DT depth is not scary. Especially when Jones and Wootton can play some snaps inside too.

So what I'm hearing is no excuses next year.

Two guys injured in the same position. Like Waddle/Hilliard. It's possible. Nobody has great 3rd/4th string depth. But we do have some good 3rd string depth. We have great 2nd string depth. Better than most teams.

11-5. No excuses needed for the team. QB play is based on many factors. We had a very good team.

I also like the pick up of Isaiah Johnson at safety. Dude is decently big and pretty fast at 6foot1 and 4.5 forty, and hopefully can step in and play if Dig goes down, granted he makes the team. He's a hard nosed guy who can play in the box very well, something I see Dig doing a lot.

Forget depth... I question the 3ntire d-line.

Ngata is aging. No idea what he has left. Walker is an unknown as a starter. Wooten is a good 3-4 DE, but hasn't shown much in a 4-3. Reid is a good rotational guy with limited use. Wright is a rookie.

And those are just the DTs. Aside from Ansah there is nothing "known" about the DEs at all.

Our strongest unit from last season is our most suspect unit this season.

Depth is a good question. Starters are a bigger question.

Well yeah if someone of Calvin's caliber goes down, shit even announcers will give excuses. I think DT we have enough possibilities that some will work and some won't. DBs are just awful in general outside of our starting safety duo

Besides Ngata aging he's been in a 3-4 for some time. I worry about that..

Ngata had one of the best seasons of his career last year and you forget Austin knows all about what he can do. Not worried one bit about Ngata and think we should lock him up before he beasts this season.

I've seen many of guys fail going from a 4-3 to a 3-4 and vice versa. 1 year DC won't change that..

Hes going back to baltimore. Their gm already tampered but mayhew is to much of a pus to do anything about it.

Ravens hoping for Ngata reunion; did they tamper?

By Dave Birkett, Detroit Free Press 3:02 a.m. EDT April 2, 2015

The Detroit Lions are not pursuing tampering charges against the Miami Dolphins after losing Ndamukong Suh in free agency, but they might have a case against the Baltimore Ravens when it comes to Haloti Ngata.

Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti made comments Wednesday during a conference call with season-ticket holders that may violate league rules on what club personnel can say about players on other teams.

"I respect Haloti," Bisciotti said on the conference call, according to the Baltimore Sun. "I had a wonderful conversation with him after he was traded. We are going to miss him, but I haven't heard anything about him getting an extension from Detroit. As far as I know, he could be a free agent a year from now, and we may be watching the second coming of Haloti Ngata."

The Ravens traded Ngata to the Lions at the start of the new league year last month when they were unable to work out a restructured contract with the five-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle.

Both Ngata and the Lions have said they're open to a contract extension, but the two sides have not yet started talks on a new deal.

The NFL is investigating several teams, including the Dolphins, for tampering in the weeks leading up to this year's free-agent period. Suh agreed to a six-year, $114-million deal with the Dolphins less than 24 hours into free agency, after the Dolphins had been rumored to be his top pursuer for weeks.

Ngata, who Ravens coach John Harbaugh called an "iconic player" at the owners meetings last week, played his first nine NFL seasons in Baltimore and helped the team win a Super Bowl.

"I never give up hope that we couldn't get him back," Bisciott said in his conference call. "I talked to (former Ravens linebacker Jarrett Johnson) about that when he left for San Diego. Players like that are always welcome back. There were no hard feelings on either side. Haloti is a wonderful guy. I wish him the best, and maybe we'll see him again."

The Lions are one of the few organizations the NFL has found guilty of tampering in recent years.

In 2011, the league docked the Lions a seventh-round pick after it determined general comments then-defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham made about players on the Kansas City Chiefs, his old team, constituted tampering.
