Then it's a $50 T handoff to the rich. New stock value isn't going to appear overnight. You pump all that money into stocks at once, demand and price go up. The prices go up, the value does not, rich people get richer because they own the stock before prices skyrocket. Then the relative values of stocks to everything else in the nation are out of whack. We would get screwed while the wealthy have the flexibility to pull out of the over-inflated stocks while the rest of us sit and watch as things correct and what was our SS money loses value to everything we don't have to tools to invest in. It would be a financial bloodbath, twice.

but you can also put up to 5,000 a year in a tax free account at 3% at my bank.

you read Greenspan's book. he said they fixed it back in 1980, so it would stay fully funded. I don't remember the particulars, just throwing out another source of info.

not like I'd particularly believe Greenspan, but in this case, he was speaking against his own conservative, pro-banking, pro-business, anti-government instincts, so why would he make that up?
