Report: Matt Patricia indicted but not tried for sexual assault in 1996

Beware the blind date scorned, the batshit crazy bitch that I blind-dated once over 25 years ago, accused me back then of assault and battery after our short hour and a half meetup at her apartment, I wasn't attracted to her physically or emotionally but was polite albeit non-committal. I didn't bring up going out on another date, give her my phone number, asked for hers, or let her know where I lived. The married co-worker who had been urging me to go on a date with her gf, argrily told me a few days later that she had called her and claimed that I had shoved and hit her...what BS. But when I asked if her gf was going to file her complaint with the police, she said no.

back in the day I know I hooked up with girls that were probably drunk. Today...if that were to happen and they claimed they were too drunk to give consent...I could be in some trouble.

I'm glad I'm old and out of that "game"

Yes, it's definitely a different standard now.

Here in Arizona, even if a girl says yes, if the court determine she had too much to drink, you will be guilty of rape. You may be too smashed to realize she is too drunk to give consent, doesn't matter, you go to jail.

Taking a girl to a bar is an incredibly bad way to start a date now.

But certainly that was not the standard in 1996... and sure as hell not the standard when I was 21. We don't know what the alleged assault was, or even if it happened.

What we do know is that he is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a jury of his peers, which did not happen, and now never will.

Likewise, but smartphones can come in handy nowadays...IF guys decide to enjoy a consensual romp between the sheets.

Once is very debatable...b/c true sociopaths are utterly unable to enjoy "romantic" sex...instead the only way for them to get their rocks off is to overpower, humiliate, scare, and forcibly penetrate a female. Its when more than one accuser comes out of the woodwork to do so that makes her more believable.

The problem there is that it's estimated that only about 20% of rapes actually get reported. Which means there could be four other women not saying a thing for every one woman that does.

And what happens when women who file false complaints figure out we're basing credibility on quantity. Now She just gets three or four friends to also accuse him?

Just like I hope not to live in a society where it's normal to blame a woman for being raped, I hope not to live in one where we put less belief in the investigation than the number of accusers.

Doesn't make the accused guilty of anything, just more believable... but these sudden multiple accusations tend to be thrown at the more well-heeled and famous, b/c of potentially lucrative civil litigation as well as criminal. As far as rounding up friends to join in, a decent defense attorney should be able to discover any prior connections between the accusers.

However I do understand how/why so few rapes are being reported, when the victim has to endure being cross-examined, her entire sexual history comes to light, and she lives through the entire harrowing ordeal verbally over again, not to mention the stories that I have read where rape kits are never or belatedly tested, they and and any other evidence becomes less and less "fresh" as time passes.

But a good prosecutor can spin a story about how you targeted a single group of friends. We had a case locally a few years ago where a soldier was arrested in Georgia and transported back here. He was charged with 20 some counts of sexual assault on three women.

At first, I couldn't figure out how a guy in Georgia managed to sexually assault three girls in Arizona. Turns out he had been stationed here at Ft. Huachuca until a few months before. All three girls claimed that he assaulted them while he was here, and lo and behold.. they were all besties going back to high school.

The prosecutors told the jury this man had first assault the one girl, and then her friends caught his eye as well.

To be honest, I don't remember if he was found innocent or guilty, or really anything else about the case. I just remember that seemed odd to me, but plausible.

Women lie all the time over shit like this. Happened to me and a friend over 25 yrs ago. Long story short, a girl accused my friend and I of rape. We were never alone with her, multiple witnesses and she could have ruined our lives. I don't believe a fucking word of this Patricia story. This shit was dropped 22 yrs ago. What a joke

That guy appears to be a sexual predator, rather than an opportunist date or circumstantial rapist.

In the mid-70s through early 80s, it became a competition between my two years younger brother and I, as to how many ladies that we could seduce into the sack, and we were both quite successful at it. I learned that if I could convince a girl that I had no immediate interest into only getting into her pants or skirt asap, then that was all too often exactly what they would let happen. But I do regret making them so angry afterwards, when I soon stopped calling and seeing them again. I would not have done that, had it been in the post 20th century, however.

The one thing I was told over and over during my case is that once it goes to a grand jury, and they return and indictment, it's almost impossible to have the case dropped.

Prosecutors use the grand jury (and in some cases a petite jury) to gauge the strength of a case. They get to go in, present one side of the evidence only, and see if the jury finds it to be a believable case.

If they return no indictment, the prosecutor is off the hook. They can say "we took it to a grand jury, they found no reason to indict" and they have no reason to spend tax payer money to go forward.

If the grand jury does return an indictment, then the pressure is on the DA. It's extremely hard to drop because you have to explain to voters that a jury already found this person to be "guilty" and you let it go. Only in the most extreme of cases does a grand jury indictment result in a dismissal.

In may particular case, as an example, I have read the transcripts. The DA went in and said "this is what she said". He called on cop to the stand and asked her if the victim was believable. The cops said she did believe her. He then sent the grand jury to deliberate and they indicted.

When his prosecutor looked at the case file, she called it.. and I quote.. the biggest clusterfuck they had ever seen. She was beyond pissed to find out the cops knew I was in Louisiana, not Arizona when this supposedly took place. I have my travel records from work.

She dismissed the case. But it was a very very rare thing. And they told me it didn't matter who was willing to testify or not, the DA could argue the case without them.

Matt Patricia was indicted by a grand jury. And then it was dismissed. On the face of that alone, I have to believe there was a reason the prosecutor dismissed, and it was probably something evidentiary the grand jury never saw when they returned an indictment.

I don't know what to think about it all, every 5 mins someone is being accused of some sort of sexual misconduct or another. By the end of the day, Men and Women will just stop dating altogether and switch to robots. it's all part of the disgusting globalists plot to end humanity

Don't be ridiculous. In the 20th century, pre-internet, news traveled far more slowly if it was reported at all, especially locally. You weren't going to read in a newspaper or watch a news report about someone who was charged with multiple rapes in Almira NY, while living in Boise ID. Now it can go viral in seconds online via social media, awhile before the M$M even gets a blurb out on radio or TV.

I do have little doubt that AI and robotics will someday become advanced enough, so that even the homeliest people will be able to have sex with the most studly or lovely cyborg of their wettest of wet dreams. But like I posted before, sociopaths aren't that interested in sex, they are very interested in their excitement that arouses them from fear, loathing, and anger that imposing their force of will upon the unwilling causes.

I just see the long-term trends is all and the resulting outcome good or bad.. I don't like what I see in the future, hopefully, I'll be long gone before the worst of it gets here.

It's a terrible thing either way. Terrible thing that happened to that woman if true and terrible thing for this story to see the light and drag a man's reputation through the mud and all that comes with that if it isn't true. Either way, true or not, this man has been on this Earth for 43 years and this is the only potential stain to his name. He isn't a person who has been found to do these things before or since. This isn't some type of Cosby or Weinstein who had normalized this sort of behavior. I'm a believer that even if guilty, what someone does with that second opportunity is what will define them. He's been fortunate to have a second opportunity since that incident and he's done good things with his life since.

I am not so sure about the Lions claims of not knowing. They would have incentive to keep this information to themselves if they really wanted Patricia to become their coach. If they had done their due diligence and decided that this was a false accusation and still wanted to hire, letting the public know about his history may have forced their hand into not making the hire. Greg Schiano did not get the Tennessee job even though he had other previous head coaching gigs because people claim that Schiano didn't report any sexual assault occurring when he was at Penn State with Sandusky, but there is no evidence that shows him even knowing that was going on. I would imagine the public would have forced the Lions to hire someone else when they found out Patricia was accused of directly being involved of the assault itself.

He's innocent simply because he was never proven guilty. Maybe he did it. Maybe the girl got drunk and horny and wanted to screw two guys and then regretted it instantly. It doesn't matter what happened because he never got a chance to tell his side of the story in a court of law and should not be subjected to public court 22 years later.

If Matt Patricia is a sociopath who must rape in order to obtain emotional pleasure, then he would have had a couple or a few more incidents over the 20+ year span since the first time, whether reported or not.

Like pedophiles, rapists won't ever become socially-emotionally normal, they can only stop doing it, and then become perpetually "recovering" rapists. Remorse, regret, and guilt are not hard-wired into their DNA.

To be fair, we don't know that there aren't other unreported assaults. This one didn't come to light for 22 years. There could have been one last year that won't come to light for another 22 years.

But I stand by the statement that he's not guilty in a court of law, because he was never adjudicated, and we shouldn't by any standard treat him as though he's a criminal if he never even got the chance to defend himself.

I person isn't innocent just because they weren't convicted of something.
