Santorum's "war on porn"

Obamas Super Pac could see a nice check from my boy Steve Hirsch should Rooster get the nomination...lol

I'd rather that everyone come to the conclusion that it is a soul-sucking enterprise and just stop supporting it of their own volition. I agree with Santorum that, at its base, pornography is a silent, deadly, self-destructive pursuit with no ultimate reward. Who among us would want our adult children involved in it? What is the good that results? But as long as it does not involve minors or physical harm to the participants, I don't think that legislation on a Federal level is the answer.

I googled Santorum and porn and that news article was not what showed up. THAT'S NOT WHAT SHOWED UP!

If people don't like porn, don't watch it.

But get off the morality trips they try to lay on others.

I'm considering the source. Without much seriousness, however.

one thing I will never understand is people getting off on kiddie porn...those guys should be sent up in the most remote parts of middle of Alaska in December without their clothes

I agree.

But there is a huge difference between porn and child porn, and I support the FBI using stings to get those douchebags locked up, but what consenting adults do, is nobody's business, especially the Federal Government.

. . . so it's only in the bedroom where the Federal government should stay out of our consenting adult lives? Everywhere else is OK, though?

I have always said it. Intrusion by the Fed is fine for everybody else, but as soon as it hits close to home, all hell should break loose to protect my rights.

I don't look at Porn, never had - well outside the one time when I was 20. The good 'Ole days, porn whisky and chick named Dave. Ironically that's the last time I've drank. I don't have a problem with anyone that does but I also don't have a problem with someone, the feds trying to clean the internet. Because it doesn't just effect adults but anyone who uses the internet, young kids.

Don't put words in my mouth or try to make this about something it's not.

That's weak.

Well it wasn't so much weak as it was an attempt to draw a parallel where probably one did not exist.

See if this is better - You emphasized something the Fed's should not be able to intrude on. Do you extend that to other things? In other words, where do you draw the line?

Then once you draw the line, hopefully I won't be putting words into your mouth then. It is discourse that would be merited in this forum no?

pornography should absolutely be legal, to the extent it's being created by consenting adults.

when you criminalize an activity, you force it outside the protections of the law, and it then becomes "regulated" by street muscle. The exploitation of the people in the industry would become awful, like Byco stated above.

pornography is more or less ubiquitous... it's going to be out there whether the government allows it or not, and the vast majority of men are going to look at it and possess it... that's human nature. to attempt to criminalize something like that would be like alcohol prohibition: it will make criminals out of otherwise lawful abiding citizens and lead to an enforcement nightmare for the police, the FBI, etc.

when Santorum proposes stuff like this, he is simply pandering to the lowest common denominator of the GOP electorate: the ultra-religious right.
