I don't see the state going after her either. I do see Sterling going after her and TMZ in civil court if he believes her illegal taping of a private conversation costs him $100M

the question of what happens to the money after the team gets bought is a big one. I cannot fathom sterling would be denied the money. then I would see him suing anyone and everyone to get back the money from the team. that is where I believe his 1st amendment rights would definitely come into play. they can ban him and force him out, they can fine him the $2.5M, all of which is within their right as he "disgraced" the NBA; however, if they try to take that $100M then they would have to somehow prove they deserve it by showing damages to the NBA image in that amount in a court of law, and that just won't happen as the NBA will still make its money and likely profit more by his ousting and subsequent more positive image as a result.

however, if they cannot find anyone to buy the team and the team has to file for bankruptcy and then someone else buys a new franchise in LA and names it something different, then he would have no legal case as it could be argued that the team was not worth $100M and that was due to his tarnishing the team, the Clippers name, blah, blah, blah.

He will get the money from the sale of the team. My point is if he is forced to sell the team and say "only" gets $500M but it is worth $600M his loss due to the forced sale is $100M. He could also sue for loss of potential / future income from owning the team.

no... first amendment rights don't come into play at all here, and never have.

they can force him to sell; all I saw was that this takes a vote of the ownership, and supposedly Silver has the backing of most owners on this.

the only question is whether they can force him to take something less than what he wants for the value of the franchise. I'm sure both sides (the League & potential buyer(s) and Sterling) have different ideas of what the Clippers are worth. Not sure if they can force him to accept the highest bid, or how the sale will be conducted. They're not just going to take the team from him and give it to someone else.

I was reading about his non-apology apology interview with Anderson Cooper. What a disaster.

Makes me wonder how anyone can stand to be in the same room with him for more than 30 seconds... just creepy, sleazy, dumb, boorish. Yuck.

You can see the PR process working though... maybe his PR team goes over the basics with him again, and they find a more sycophantic interviewer (think female Fox News host) and in a couple more of these interviews, which are more like a coordinated publicity campaign than anything else, Sterling manages to appear slightly less revolting, without delivering any backhanded compliments to Magic Johnson, or insults to other races or women... and signs over a couple more six-figure checks to the NAACP & other organizations... I'm wondering if the NBA quietly drops the whole disciplinary process.

And if that happens... do players continue to play for this guy?
