Tigers aren't getting Choo, okay already?

Talks of Choo wanting a 7th year guaranteed now is a little scary to say the least. Amazing last week the market was around 6/110 and now can be in the 7/135-140 range.

Yeah, thats a little ridiculous. i would have been moderately ok with a 6 year deal as the max, but 7 is just too much for someone who is gonna be 38 when that contract finishes. im not quite as worried about him aging as i would be some other players (*coughellsburycough*) because on-base skills generally age well and he can always DH when his defense deteriorates more, but damn. 7 years is just too long period. 5 years is probably the most i feel comfortable with with any player.

Bad contracts are bad contracts. There's no use throwing a ridiculous amount of money/length at a free agent who's on the wrong of 30. These types of players have already played their best ball, and we'd be crippling our future success if we were to bite on this. I say no to Choo unless the deal is three years or less.

Starting with Delmon Young and below, there isn't a single player I want on the Tigers. There is no difference between Delmon and Francoeur, except Francoeur can play defense and has significantly more speed.

And for some of you, Dirks is actually better than some that have signed recently.

I'm sure its similar with other players but 3 years away on Dirks can be a bit misleading because he was much better in 2012 than in 2013. So if Dirks hits like he did last season then the list of guys I rather have over him increases.

No Granderson, No Ellsbury, No Beltran,= less supply more demand=he who waits pays more in the end. Right now the Tigers are going to pay more by not being able to compete in the playoffs with lesser talent.
The real problem for the Tigers is replacing 3 starters Fielder runs 82 Hr 24 rbi 106; Peralta,50,11,55;Inante,54,10,51= runs 186,23% of all runs. that's almost 1/4 of the offense. 45 homeruns =25% again right at 1/4; 212 RBi's 27.6% of the 767. One player is not going to replace all of that!
And asking the players that are going to replace them is asking quite a lot. Like I've said before Cabrera is going to haft to have a HOF season.

Imo, with the players let go, on offense and Fister traded and Benoit not coming back, the Tigers have fallen back to the pack in the Central.
DD has to make a trade for a 7th/8th inning established reliever and get a LF in trade at the winter meetings.....or it will be difficult to repeat. I don't think they really want to sign Choo at 6/7 years. Looking more like he has to trade....but the farm has slim pickings to offer.

Yeah this offseason has been questionable to say the least. Still shaking my head with turning down the Veras option especially given the prices relievers are signing for. Also the Fister trade that didn't fill any of our team holes and basically weakened the starting rotation and the bullpen as well with moving Smyly into the rotation. Then we do make a great signing in Nathan (at least contract wise) but if we stand pat right now this is going to be a long season for sure.

Choo to Texas. Looks like nobody will contend with them. Hell, the Tigers probably wont even finish top two in their own division.

Maybe, but that's what people kept saying about the Angels too after they signed Pujols and Hamilton. I wouldn't be shocked at all to see the Athletics take the AL West again.

I wonder if Texas realizes that Choo could be called to active military service in Korea if the situation there gets much worse between North and South.

Not likely to happen, but he was already given his deferment once.

Ridiculously overpriced and how does the Rangers signing Choo make us lucky to get to 2 in our division? You people are ridiculous

The Tigers could sign Clayton Kershaw for a dollar and Don Kelly and you all would whine about it at this point
