Tigers @ Phillies Game #59 6/6/2023

We might be winning the central if we had some of the ex tigers in mlb.

Because other then Greene I don?t see a real keeper in this bunch right now. You think the light is going to turn on for Spencer but now I?m not so sure. His at bats are so inconsistent. Man I?m worried about him. Sure would be nice to have a high draft pick hit for the tigers.
I think he Recognized the off speed pitch he hit for a homer the other day but some at bats it looks like he is guessing. At least he sees some pitches every now and then.

Bases loaded 1 out. Just killed us in the 5th.

Phillies go out 123 in the 8th. Nice defense by Ibanez at 2nd. Nice pick at first by Spencer.

Tigers 9th

Kimbrel pitching

Maton 1-2 count. Just waste a pitch . Maton will K. He does
Baddoo 0-2. Swings at 2 pitches a foot off the plate. K?s on a waste pitch. Tiger are just a stupid team.
Short k?s on a ball. But to close to take.

Tigers lose 1-0

Tigers lost 5th in a row. In 4 of those games tigers had great pitching, and should be 4-1 over this stretch.

I know Harris I has been handcuffed by the previous regime but he has to try something different.
This group has lost it. The look unfocused on offense. Mostly uninterested. It?s pathetic.

Tigers 210 runs tied with the A?s with the lowest offense production in mlb.

Marisnick at bat with the bases loaded in the 5th, and 1 out was just putrid. It wasn?t mlb quality.

Tigers fail with bases loaded again and less then 1 out.

Marnisnick wasn't even close to putting the ball in play.
K's on a inside pitch that wasn't close.

Mckinstry sees 2 pitches and Flys out to center field.

Back to back awful at bats with bases loaded

Check out the Days of Roar podcast at the 40 minute mark. The poor showing for batting with RISP is historic compared to MLB history.

And this team was too good for hittin' Harold. He doesn't have much skill but you know his average was going to be good. And Willi, nope not good enough. We rather have Maton and Ibanez. Buy out Baez regardless the cost. How many hitting coaches do we have to go through. Eventually you gotta let go the one in change, AJ Hinch.

Thanks Ron. Pretty eye opening how the lack of improvement since Harris took over.
So much regression by tiger hitters. I?m tired of hearing about Baez defense. A lot of Harris moves don?t look that great right now Maton, Virlling, Ibanez, Nevin. Some others.

Hopefully Harris will get better. He sure cut guys fast. But his replacements have not been up to snuff. Harris does act like the smartest guy in the room.
But he does have a mess to fix from Avila.

Listen to the podcast everyone. You can skip around but from 30 minutes on it talks about the hitting.
Harris has hit on mckinstry and that?s it . Right now not good.

This team has zero on the field or dugout leadership. miggy and schoop are jokes in the dugout in my opinion. Baez is a veteran but is not the answer. This Team is just a mess right now.

Phillies 1 - Tigers 0: Brother, can you spare a run?
On the plus side, a bullpen day that could?ve gone terribly for the Tigers saw everybody pitch-in and do a decent job.

Today, another opportunity for readers to discuss the hottest topics in a forum where thoughtful dialog and a variety of opinions are welcomed.

Let?s create some running conversational threads. And for those of you back in actual offices, here?s a question to take with you ? or use via Zoom ? as you talk to your co-workers.

Here is today?s topic??..

Miguel Cabrera is slashing .196/.275/.237/.512 (through Monday?s games).
He has yet to hit a HR but has 4 doubles and driven in 7 runs in 97 at-bats.
Most of his inability to hit can be blamed on injuries including a chronic knee condition that no longer allows him to hit for power nor to run well. He is also 40 years old.

We know that the order to play him comes from ownership for multiple reasons. We also know that Miggy will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer in 5 years.
He would go in as a Tiger.

Currently, Cabrera is climbing the 3,000+ hits chart and currently ranks #23. He has 3,107 hits, 100 more than Al Kaline.

With 4 more hits, he will pass Dave Winfield. With just 5 more hits, he will pass Alex Rodriquez.

If he gets 34 and 35 more hits (based upon his current 3,107), he will pass Tony Gwynn and Robin Yount. With only 10-12 more hits, he will also climb past Paul Waner and George Brett. Even Adrian Beltre is potentially within reach that would allow Miggy to finish his career as the 16th player in MLB history with the most hits.

It is not expected that he could overtake Cal Ripken, Jr. who ended up with 3,184 hits.

What should be the priority for the remainder of this year? Should Miggy play as little as possible or should he be allowed to pursue his climb up the 3,000 hit list? How important is getting as many hits as possible to move higher on the list and potentially pass as many as 7 other greats of the game?

How should the Tigers handle Miguel Cabrera for the rest of the year?

1. Give him as few at-bats as possible.

2. Allow him to pursue and pass other members of the 3,000 hit club.

I couldn't find the thread that had a poll asking if people thought that the Tigers could get to .500 and stay there for 4 consecutive days. I would say that is a pipe dream at this point. 7 games under and sinking
