Tigers @ Phillies Game #60 6/8/2023

Harris inherited a mess and has made it not much better.
He hasn't made it any better. Wins or losses aside the offense blows and the players who have done good were here before Harris (except McKinstry). The offense he traded for have failed, the "control the strike zone" is a massive failure.

In two losses, Lange can't harness nasty arsenal.

Phillies 3 - Tigers 2: Swept for the second series straight.
The offense struggled badly again, and once they finally broke through their most dependable reliever blew the game anyway.

FIVE FOR FRIDAY.
Totally Tigers

If you?ve been reading this blog for awhile, you?re familiar with that roller coaster I?ve been writing about. Well, folks, we?re on it again. This time heading down the hill.

And this one is more serious. There?s no guarantee that the Tigers will make it up that hill again this year unless changes are made.

I?m talking about the recent skid in which the team has lost 5 games straight (through Wednesday) and been shut out twice while scoring 1, 2 and 3 runs in the other losses.

So why is this different? What does it all mean?

I?ve got my top 5 takeaways???

I don't think the way to build a winner is through free agency. I think that you need to develop a really good farm system. That said, I was on board to sign some better free agents last off season. Not Baez type contracts, but a few guys in the $15M per year range. Put a decent product on the field while you are building the farm.

You have to go back to '84 since we built a good team through the farm system. 2006-11, 12 - was mostly free agency or trades. You need to get very lucky. Combination of the two is best way IMO.

Bill Lajoie was a great but forgotten GM.
