Tigers vs. yankees Game Preview.

It’s a rainy, dreary morning at Comerica Park, where the waiting game is on to see if they can get this game in. At this point, the reports suggest there’s going to be a window coming up when, if the windows lasts enough, they can at least get the game started and try to play through rain when it resumes this afternoon.
One thing to keep in mind: Since it’s late in the season and it’s the Yankees’ last trip to Detroit, the call on whether this game will be played is up to the umpires, not the Tigers. And they’re well aware that there’s only one common off-day between these two clubs — Sept. 17, which is the last off-day they have. If the Tigers have to play that day, they’ll be playing 26 consecutive days to end the regular season.
The forecast played at least a small part in Jim Leyland’s lineup today. After talking with the medical staff, he decided to give Miguel Cabrera another day at DH to take it easy on his sore ankle. That caused an outfield shuffle that ends in a day off for Austin Jackson, who’s 3-for-14 this series after going 1-for-5 with three strikeouts last night.

Austin Jackson finally gets a day off.
If today's game isn't eventually rained out, Quintin Berry will bat leadoff and start in center field in place of Jackson, who hasn't missed a game since the All-Star break.
With the ground being slick from an overnight downpour, Jim Leyland isn't taking a chance with Miguel Cabrera, who is still nursing a sore ankle, at third base. Cabrera will make his second start at DH in the past week with Omar Infante taking over the third-base duties.
Andy Dirks gets the start in left field with the right-handed Hiroki Kuroda slated to start for the Yankees. Today's lineup is stacked with six left-handed hitters with Brennan Boesch batting fifth and the switch-hitting Ramon Santiago starting at second, hitting ninth.

hopefully we can bash kuroda around and win. at least double play delmon isnt in the lineup today, though im not sure im hot on berry leading off seeing that he's cooled off immensely lately. ajax could probably use a day off though, he didnt have a good game last night.

Grounds crew pulling the tarp at Comerica Park. They'll have some field work to do, but looks like this game is going to happen.
REMINDER: I-75 North is closed at the Southfield Freeway. Detour is Southfield Fwy North to I-94 East. No estimated re-opening time.

Rainout today could force Tigers to play final 27 games without a day off.
from the detnews

Game is scheduled to start at 1:15

scratch that.....

Now no 1:15 first pitch start for Tigers - Yankees due to more rain.
Leyland, Girardi just finished talking with umpires and groundskeeper Heather Nabozny behind home plate. On goes cover over mound and plate.
Rain has resumed at Comerica, and they're covering up mound, home plate. Just got done lining batters boxes.

Don Kelly cleared waivers, and has been outrighted to Triple-A.
