Tragedy in the MMB

Patrick Fleming, a trumpeter in the MMB was killed while traveling to school on Monday. This young man was truly a great human being and after speaking with some of the kids on the MMB it will be a rough game for them on Saturday.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. The Band will leave his place vacant within their formations during the game this Saturday in his honor.

Here is more information from Dave Brandon: http://www.mgoblue.com/sports/brandon/spec-rel/092711aaa.html

Sad and tragic for someone with such promise and so much life to live. My heart and prayers go out to his family. A true Michigan Man. Go Blue Patrick.

That's terrible. I can't imagine how I would ever recover from something like that. Prayers all around.

On top of this already being terribly sad; this is going to be incredibly sad on Saturday:

"The band will look no different unless you look very closely. When they are in any of their formations, the band will leave an unoccupied space in the trumpet section where Patrick is supposed to be standing. Patrick Fleming will be missed by us all. The Michigan Marching Band was an important part of Patrick's life, and he was an important part of what makes our band special."

very sad

had not realized Flint and Dearborn could participate but on second thought it makes sense

facebook post today from band:

The Michigan Marching Band would like to extend a huge thank you to our visitors today from The Eastern Michigan University Marching Band, The Ohio State University Marching Band, and The Spartan Marching Band, as well as to all those from The Big Ten Bands and around the nation who have offered their incredible support during our time of need, it means a lot to us. Thank you!

Classy gesture. It's comforting to see that people can have proper perspective, and clearly see that some things transcend sports rivalry's. Actually, this embodies what a rivalry should be. Mutual respect.
