The Parker Solar Probe launches tomorrow (8/11/18). It has equipment to conduct 5 main experiments, and one of the projects is led by a Michigan professor. Over the course of years, it will slingshot by the sun several times, eventually reaching a top speed of 430,000 mph. That's 0.064% of the speed of light. It will get as close as 3.83 million miles from the sun; Earth is 150 million miles from the sun.
