Tigers @ Pirates Game #7

Brad really managed poorly today.. Loss can be pinned on him today.. Hopefully he will learn from it..

Loss can be pinned on the fact that Cole pitched outstanding today. Sanchez gave up some dingers, and Cole didn't.

Nick C. killed two huge rallies with double plays as well. Those hurt the most.

Welcome to Detroit where the wins are because of the players and the losses are because of the coach.

Ok then sure...I disagree the out come could not have been different

Brad could have pinched hit Martinez with the bases loaded and zero outs.
He also as other have suggested taken AS out after the second homer and over 90
pitches at 3-1..

Managing the game correctly is important..

Nick is struggling and not patient at plate and over swing at everything.. For sure the second time he should have been
pinch hitted for and for me the first was VM's best spot to impact the game in the Tigers favor.

To pinch hit Martinez in the 7th was too early in my opinion (we can differ on that one). Nobody out with the bases loaded, you have to count on your regular guy to AT LEAST hit the ball to the outfield and get a run in that way. Martinez still could have been needed to pinch hit for the pitcher's spot. The second time we had Romine and McCann available. You really feel that much better with either of those two guys up? It sucks that Nick failed so bad, but blame Nick who is supposed to be our everyday third baseman. You can't just pull a guy every time he has a couple of bad at bats.

Your crazy to think managers cannot impact some games. Look no further then today's game to see WE could have won if it was managed better. Pretty easy to see..

You have your opinion i have my opinion..

I am trying to win 1 game here not a contest if you are a regular.. if its miggy, VM or a few others struggling i give him a pass.. But Nick is not seeing anything well right now.. VM's biggest chance of impact was right there with the sacks full. Then he let Nick kill another rally .. Now if Nick was hot then I do not care.. But he is struggling. I hated have VM come up with no runners on in the ninth.
Also at 3-1 after the Sanchez homer its pretty easy to see AS should have been pulled. For sure after the next hit before the homer...

BTW Cole was yanked really fast by Pittsburgh.

The game could have been managed better for sure, but we lost because the Pirates just played better than we did for all 9 innings. 162 games in a season, we are going to get outplayed in at least 1/3 of them.

Nick has only hit into 7 DP's in his career(625 PA's) before today. He had a bad day for sure, but blaming Brad for hitting him in both those spots is crazy.

I loved that they kept fighting. Past teams might have just packed it in.

Agreed.

Men on 1st, less than 2 outs career PA/GIDP Career (prior to this game)

Cabrera 6.7

V. Martinez 6.7

T. Hunter 7.0

Kinsler 7.9

A. Gose 7.9

J.D. Martinez 8.3

Iglesias 9.0

Avila 9.2

A. Jackson 9.6

R. Davis 10.3

A. Romine 11.4

Cespedes 11.8

Castellanos 18.1

Overwhelmingly, Castellanos doesn't ground into double plays as a general rule. We forgive Cabrera and Victor because the RBIs. It wasn't the Tigers game. My issue is not pulling Sanchez sooner. I understand why he started the 7th (wanted to pinch hit for him at the end of the inning), but he needed to be pulled before the game got out of hand, especially in an NL park.

Hard to believe Tigers are 6-1 and in second place.

Royals are on another one of their runs. They had that big one last year. I don't see them maintaining it. Their bullpen can only carry them so far. Their starting pitching is much worse this year, and their offense is about the same. A Ventura, Duffy, Guthrie, Volquez, and Vargas rotation is pretty brutal. No real ace, and not even a true number 2 starter either.. Ventura has potential, but that's it at this point.
