Tigers Season Preview

Sounds about right. I think they finish somewhere around .500. I think there is a chance they finish in 4th place only ahead of the Whitesox.

Yeah this team is very un-exciting and I just do not see this team over. 500.
Hope I am Wrong BECAUSE I Love Tiger Baseball! !!!

I think they'll contend for a wild card spot baring any key injuries.

87-75 just make or just miss the 2nd WC

no key injuries? What would you consider a key injury? Every team has a "key injury" over the course of a 162 game season.

I would guess he means losing a high impact player for an extended period of time. A few 15-day DL's wont kill any team, but if we lose any of Cabrera, JV, VMart, Upton, Kinsler, Sanchez, or Zimmerman for longer than a few weeks or 2 or more of them, we will be in big trouble, because our replacement players are terrible.

Personally, I think we will need a very lucky streak to content for a wild card even with no major injuries.

Yes what thumb said no prolonged injuries to key players like miggy vmart jd upton jv, Zimmerman etc..

Watching reply of Yankees tigers spring game jd hit three home runs today..offense is looking ready to go

I think the odds are good that they will miss a few of those guys for more than a 15 days. Sanchez is the first to come to mind.

I agree with them needing to be lucky to contend for a WC.

I am sorry, I just don't see anything better than 80-82 without Castellanos, Gose/Maybin and/or McCann/Saltalamacchia having very, very good years. These are realistic estimates based on average performance over the last 3 years and natural regressions or progressions based on age.

Certainly, this team could go 87-75, but it relies on a lot of things going right and hardly anything going wrong. The Tigers are already starting the season with at least 3 players that should have been on the 25-man roster on the DL. However, if someone like Collins ends up with enough At Bats, that just might mean that he had a break out year and regulated Gose/Maybin to the bench.

Long term, this is the year for Castellanos. If he doesn't end with a high .700 OPS (or above), then his value to this team has come and gone. Slight improvements aren't enough. He needs to make some sort of impact. This organization has no replacement plan. The closest thing was signing Casey McGehee, who is not much better.

ESPN experts weigh in on season predictions.

31 people "voted". The AL central appears to be where there is the most disagreement as 4 of the 5 teams have been selected by at least one person. Tigers were picked to win by 3 people. They were picked by 2 to get a WC spot. Most of them chose the Royals or Indians with 2 choosing the Twins.

I'll have some faith this season but I'm curious what they base it on where Upton is overrated and McCann is underrated?

83 wins is the best I can come up with and that is a healthy team. Starting pitching and up the middle is pretty weak. I see the Blue Jay's, Rangers, Astro's, Indians, and the Yankees.

@Rebbiv, work the Indians numbers and see if you think they win the central...

A lot definitely has to go well health wise and other but they should be a top ten offensive team.

Top 7 in OPS last year at lf,rf,1b,and 2b and a healthy V Mart should be every bit of that. Comes down to Nick progressing and McCann settling in. I don't understand ZIPS forecasting a hitting regression for McCann.

Obviously the pitching is a big ? And that's a real reason for concern.

I apologize for the tinge of positivity in my post. Nevermind. Tigers 54 and 108 and 35 games out of first.
