2018 Free Agency

I love the Blount signing. Maybe they will punch it in from the 1 occasionally now.

Detroit Lions sign LeGarrette Blount to one-year, $4.5 million deal.
The Lions have finally decided on a veteran running back.
POD

Blount ended up playing the most snaps out of any running back on the Philadelphia Eagles last year. He had the second-highest elusive rating (70.6) and he forced the most missed tackles (42) on the team. Blount has forced at least 28 missed tackles when rushing the ball and has averaged at least 2.4 yards after contact per carry every year since 2013.
LeGarrette Blount, led the #NFL for average yards after contact (3.56) in 2017.
He had the 10th most forced missed tackles (35) in the run game, but every RB who had more than him also had more carries.
He heads to Detroit with former Patriots defensive coordinator and now current Lions head coach Matt Patricia.
PFF

Found this for anyone wonders about the high salary;
Blount's deal is $2M with ability to earn $2.5M more in incentives.

I hate Legarrette Blount as a person, and have ever since his college sucker punch for being a store loser in that bowl game, but I can't deny his talent and how he's matured as he's gotten older. I approve of this signing.

Hard not to like a guy who helped his team win the last two Super Bowls

Exactly what we needed and at a solid price and a term that shouldn't stop us from drafting a RB although we did just resign ZZ so idk if there is any room for another RB on the roster....

Plenty of room on the roster after Washington gets released. Might even see an Abdullah trade in the works. Green could also get dumped as well.

True, I'm just concerned if we go into the season with AA that the rookie wouldn't see the field enough but hopefully we could trade him because I doubt we release him with the deal he's on but I could be wrong and they could just use AA as back up insurance plan. Curious as to what the plan actually is with Quinn... We shall see...

At least now we're find out if it was our RB's or OL that was the problem.

Jonathan Hankins released by the Colts. Just as young as Poe, but arguably a better player. He's a run stopping specialist, might be a perfect NT as well for our 3-4 looks.

Sylvester Williams released by titans as well... presumably to make way for suh to sign there.

The Detroit Lions need to make a serious run at DT Johnathan Hankins.
A big, run-stopping DT is now on the market, and the Lions should go after him.
New Lions linebacker Devon Kennard, who played with Hankins in New York, is already trying to recruit him!

Could Johnathan Hankins solve Lions' DT woes?

If I was making our roster of RBs, it would be this...

Blount
Green
Riddick
Rookie RB
Fullback

The fullback can be drafted or cheap free agent option. Trade or release AA. I'm confused by the ZZ re-signing.

Just because he was resigned doesn't mean he HAS to make the roster. What if a RB has a major knee injury in the pre season.....ZZ is nothing more than a camp body at this point.
He has no guarantees in his contract and can be released at no cost. Why is that confusing?

ZZ’s contract details still aren’t out (that I could find), but I don’t think he’s done anything to earn multiple years + guaranteed money, so he should be easily expendable. They thought he was worth keeping in the short term, he’ll either impress the new staff or get cut without much (if any) loss.

Unless there’s something ridiculous in his contract, it’s a non-issue IMO.
