Both pitchers have struggled with the long ball, but Sanchez has had the bigger issues. In his last start, Tuesday against Milwaukee, the right-hander surrendered three straight home runs and was pulled after 3 2/3 innings.
Hernandez, who earned a win in his last start by tossing six innings of two-run ball against the Athletics, has allowed home runs in five of his eight starts this year.
Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera (.359 batting average, three home runs) and outfielder Rajai Davis (.429 average) both have had success against the righty.
Detroit second baseman Ian Kinsler entered Saturday's game batting .329 with 17 doubles, four triples and 12 home runs against the Astros throughout his career.
Colby Rasmus has the most experience of any Astros hitter against Sanchez. The outfielder is 4-for-19 with 11 strikeouts and a home run in 22 plate appearances.
After Joba Chamberlain pitched a perfect eighth inning against the top of the Astros' lineup on Friday, Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said the right-hander has earned the setup role for the time being.
