Casey is a pretty good defensive coach, and his players seemed to like him. He's not very good with offense (recent article showed that much/most of the Raptor's offensive improvement was due to their new assistant). The Pistons lately have been an above average defensive team and below average offensive team. You could say Casey fits our personnel (we don't have a lot of choice but to be a grind it out team). You could also say he may exacerbate our issues (the Raptors were a team with bad shot selection and minimal passing before Nurse jazzed up the offense).
I think the value of Casey here would depend a lot on Nurse (offensive assistant). If we could get both, I think it would be a coup. Even if Casey isn't the greatest playoff tactician, Detroit right now has to focus on getting there more than anything. Casey should keep the defense in line. Nurse could probably make a big difference on our offense.
