Celtics legend K.C. Jones has died at age 88.
K.C. Jones, who won eight titles in nine seasons with the Boston Celtics, has died. His success carried over as a coach for the Celtics, when he won three titles during the 80s. In a statement the team said Jones "made his teammates better, and he got the most out of the players he coached. Never one to seek credit, his glory was found in the most fundamental of basketball ideals ? being part of a winning team."
The Celtics family mourns the loss of twelve-time NBA champion, two-time NCAA champion, Gold medal-winning Olympian and Hall of Famer, K.C. Jones, as we celebrate his remarkable career and life.

Brad Stevens on K.C. Jones: "The way that he was revered by the players he played with, by the people he worked with, by the players that played for him, he was special."
Sad news on this Christmas: Celtics legend KC Jones has died. Jones, a college teammate of Bill Russell at the University of San Francisco, where they won two NCAA titles, won 12 NBA championships ? 11 with Boston: eight as a player, one as an assistant and two as a head coach.
On Tuesday, the Celtics opened the season lowering the banners to bookend the parquet floor and hold a moment of silence remembering the great champion player and coach Tommy Heinsohn. Two days later, we mourn the loss of his teammate, great champion and coach, KC Jones.
KC Jones was the Marcus Smart of his time. He was such a tough defender that when he tried out for an NFL team, he created what we now know as bump and run coverage. He was not afraid to defend hard & was a great complement defensively to Bill Russell.
KC Jones was simply a legend. Jones is the only African-American coach other than Bill Russell to win multiple NBA championships. The Hall of Famer also won eight as a player. Say what you want about Boston, but Russell and Jones were two of the first NBA black coaches there.
